국문 초록

이 연구는 청소년의 온라인 미디어 이용이 폭력성에 미치는 영향을 분석하고, 이 과정에서 폭력 및 혐오 표현 노출의 매개효과와 미디어 리터러시 교육의 조절된 매개효과를 실증적으로 검토하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 2021년 ‘청소년 미디어 이용실태 조사’ 데이터를 활용하였으며, 중·고등학생 2,958명의 응답을 분석에 사용하였다. 분석결과, 온라인 미디어 이용은 오프라인 폭력성에 유의미한 정적 영향을 미쳤고, 폭력 및 혐오 표현 노출을 통해 부분 매개됨이 확인되었다. 반면, 온라인 폭력성에 대해서는 직접 효과는 유의하지 않았지만, 폭력 및 혐오 표현 노출을 통한 완전 매개효과가 나타났다. 특히 미디어 리터러시 교육은 온라인 폭력성과 관련된 매개 경로에서 조절된 매개효과를 보였으며, 교육 수준이 높은 청소년일수록 유해 콘텐츠 노출이 온라인 폭력성으로 이어지는 경향이 유의미하게 감소하였다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 이 연구의 학술적 의의와 정책적 시사점을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

This study examines the effects of online media use on adolescents’ violent behavior, focusing on the mediating role of exposure to violent and hateful content and the moderated mediation effect of media literacy education. Using data from the 2021 Korean Youth Media Use Survey, responses from 2,958 middle and high school students were analyzed. The results showed that online media use had a significant positive effect on offline violence, partially mediated by exposure to violent and hateful content. In contrast, online media use did not have a statistically significant direct effect on online violence, but a fully mediated effect through exposure to violent and hateful content was observed. Notably, media literacy education demonstrated a moderated mediation effect specifically in the pathway related to online violence, indicating that adolescents with higher levels of media literacy were less likely to exhibit violent behavior online despite exposure to harmful content. Based on these findings, the study discusses its academic contributions and policy implications for violence prevention and youth media education.
