국문 초록

자기정당성은 경찰관이 업무를 수행하는데 자신감을 형성할 수 있으며 타당한 의사결정을 내리거나 경찰관의 재량권을 효과적으로 활용할 수 있도록 돕는다. 그동안 널리 알려진 경찰정당성의 선행요인은 많은 연구가 진행됐지만, 자기정당성에 관한 연구는 상대적으로 수가 매우 부족하여서 자기정당성의 선행요인을 확인하는 연구가 필요하다. 본 연구는 경찰관이 인지하는 자기정당성의 선행요인을 확인하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 그중에서 경찰 근무복에 대한 인식은 경찰관 스스로에 대한 권위와 사회적 지위 등에 대한 믿음을 강화하여 경찰의 자기정당성을 향상할 수 있으므로, 경찰 근무복에 대한 인식과의 관계를 확인한다(Joseph & Alex, 1972). 이를 위해, 관련 이론적 배경을 검토하고 가설을 설정한다. 가설검정을 위해서는 전국의 경찰관들을 대상으로 설문조사를 수행하여 결과를 도출한다. 그 후, 설문조사에 응답한 경찰관의 응답을 실증분석하고, 연구 결과를 토대로 경찰에서 활용할 수 있는 시사점을 제시한다.

영문 초록

Self-legitimacy can build confidence in police officers performing their duties, and enable them to make sound decisions or effectively use their discretion. Although many studies have been conducted on the antecedents of police legitimacy, which are widely known, studies on self-legitimacy are relatively rare. Thus, research on the antecedents of self-legitimacy is urgently needed. This study aims to identify the antecedents of self-legitimacy perceived by police officers. Meanwhile, the perception of police uniforms is known to enhance police officers’ self-legitimacy by strengthening their belief in their own authority and social status (Joseph & Alex, 1972), so we examine the relationship with the perception of police uniforms. First, we review the related theoretical background and establish hypotheses. In order to test the hypotheses, we conduct a survey of police officers nationwide and derive the results. Then, we analyze the results of an empirical study conducted on police officers who responded nationwide and present implications that can be utilized by the police based on the research results.
