조선미인보감을 통해 본 진주기생의 예술적 특징

국문 초록

본 연구는 『조선미인보감』에 등록된 기생 중 진주군 출신 29명에 대한 활동과 예술적 특징을 살펴보는 것이 목적이다. 『조선미인보감』의 기생단체 중 유일하게 진주기생조합에 대한 정보가 없다. 진주출신 기생들은 진주 교방이나 기생조합에서 3~5년간의 학습을 하고 다른 지역으로 이동했다. 따라서 진주출신 기생들의 진주교방과 기생조합의 학습기간을 통해 그들의 예술적 특징을 파악할수 있다. 29명의 진주출신 기생 중에서 진주에서의 학습이력이 명시된 사람은 12명으로 김영희·이매홍·정진홍·박롱화·왕월출·김학희·이죽향·리화향·진선옥·임산호·김채련·이명옥이다. 진주출신 기생들의 예술적 특징은 춤은 정재춤과 검무를 독보적으로 잘하는것으로 나타났다. 노래는 가곡과 가사와 같은 정가에 탁월했고, 악기는 가야금과양금을 잘했다. 진주출신 기생들의 진주에서의 3~5년간의 예술 교육은 개인의예술적 성장에 결정적 기여를 했다. 이는 지방의 기생 교육이 근대 기생의 전문성과 예술성을 형성하는데 중요한 토대였음을 보여준다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the activities and artistic characteristics of 29 gisaengs from Jinju-gun among the gisaengs registered in the 『 Chosun Beautiful Bogam 』. Among the gisaeng organizations of the 『 Joseon Beautiful Bogam 』, there is no information on the Jinju gisaeng association. After 3 to 5 years of study at Jinju Gyobang or Gisaeng association, the gisaengs from Jinju have moved to other regions. Therefore, it is possible to grasp the artistic characteristics of the gisaengs from Jinju through the learning period of Jinju Gyobang and Gisaeng association. Among the 29 gisaengs from Jinju, 12 were specified with their learning history in Jinju, including Kim Young-hee, Lee Mae-hong, Jeong Jin-hong, Park Long-hwa, Wang Wolchul, Kim Hak-hee, Lee Jukhyang, Lee Hwahyang, Jin Seon-ok, Im San-ho, Kim Chae-ryeon, and Lee Myung-ok. The artistic characteristics of the gisaengs from Jinju were found to be exceptionally good at Jeongjae dance and Geommu. The song was excellent for the same regular price as the songs and lyrics, and the instruments were good at Gayageum and Yanggeum. All of the skills of these gisaengs are consistent with the learning contents of the Jinju Gisaeng Association and Gwonbeon. Therefore, it can be seen that the 3-5 years of study in Jinju had a great influence on the activities of other local gisaeng organizations.
