남창 시조와 창사의 음향학적 분석 비교 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 국악인 홍창남이 가창한 시조(사설시조)와 창사(수악절창사)의 음원을 대상으로, 두 장르 간 발성 구조 및 음색의 차이를 음향학적으로 비교 분석하였다. 동일한 가창자의 창법을 기반으로 비교 분석함으로써, 전통 성악 장르의창법적 특성과 그 발성 기법을 실증적으로 규명하는 데 목적이 있다. 분석에는 음향 분석 소프트웨어 Praat 프로그램을 활용하였으며, Formant, Pitch, Intensity, 비브라토 항목을 중심으로 정량적 수치를 도출하였다. 그 결과, 시조는 F1이 낮고 F2와 F3가 상대적으로 높으며, 공명 중심의 두성 창법을활용하고 있음이 확인되었다. Pitch는 약 196Hz를 중심으로 미세한 진동이 일부 구간에서 관찰되어, 절제된 비브라토가 존재하였다. Intensity는 약 2.867dB 범위로 강약 조절이 명확하며, 정교한 호흡을 한다는 것이 드러났다. 반면, 창사는 F1이 높고 Formant 간 간격이 좁아 발음 중심의 낭송형 창법을 보였으며, Pitch는 수평적 흐름을 유지하고 비브라토는 관찰되지 않았다. Intensity는 비교적 일정하게 유지되며 점진적으로 약해지는 경향을 보였다. 이러한 결과는 시조와 창사가 각각 공명 중심의 절제된 정가 창법과 의미 전달 중심의 낭송형 창법이라는 미학적 방향성을 갖고 있음을 음향적으로 입증하며, 향후 실용음악 창법 연구 및 교육적 응용 가능성에서도 기초자료로 활용될수 있다.

영문 초록

This study acoustically compares the vocal structures and timbral characteristics of two traditional Korean vocal genres—Sijo (Saseol Sijo) and Changsa (Suakjeol Changsa)—performed by the Korean traditional vocalist Hong Chang-nam. By analyzing recordings sung by the same performer, the study aims to empirically examine the vocal techniques and stylistic characteristics of each genre. The acoustic analysis was conducted using the software Praat, focusing on four parameters: Formants, Pitch, Intensity, and Vibrato. The results indicate that Sijo features a low F1 and relatively high F2 and F3 values, reflecting a resonance-centered vocal style based on head tone. Its pitch remains centered around 196 Hz with slight vibrato observed in specific segments, and its intensity varies significantly, indicating detailed dynamic control and refined breath technique. In contrast, Changsa exhibits a higher F1 and narrower formant spacing, suggesting a speech-like delivery with a focus on articulation. The pitch remains flat throughout, with no vibrato detected, and the intensity remains relatively stable with a gradual decrease toward the end. These findings demonstrate that Sijo embodies a restrained, resonance- focused vocal style, while Changsa emphasizes linguistic clarity and narrative delivery. The study provides acoustic validation of these stylistic directions and offers foundational data that may be further applied in research on practical vocal techniques and music education.
