전공자율선택제 맥락에서의 1학년 세미나 국제 비교 분석

국문 초록

[연구목적] 본 연구는 전공자율선택제라는 제도적 맥락에서 국내 대학의 1학년 세미나 교과목이 나아갈 방향을 제시하기 위해, 유사한 제도를 운영 중인 해외 대학의 사례를 비교 분석하여 시사점을 탐색하였다. [연구방법] Bereday의 비교교육 분석 틀과 Yin의 다중사례–내포된 설계에 기반한 질적 사례연구로, 북미와 아시아 등 4개 국가 내 5개 해외 대학의 1학년 세미나 교과목을 분석하였다. 분석 항목은 개설 목적, 교수학습 방법, 평가 방식, 제도 연계, 학문 간 융합성의 다섯 가지로 구성하였다. [연구결과] 개설 목적은 진로 설계형 교과가 다수를 차지하며, 학생의 전공 탐색과 자기 주도적 진로 계획 수립을 주로 설정하고 있다. 교수학습은 토론, 그룹 활동, 프로젝트 기반 학습 등 학생 참여 중심으로 이루어지며, 평가는 과제 중심 평가가 일반적이었다. 대부분의 대학이 세미나 교과를 전공 선택 과정과 구조적으로 연계하고 있으며, 전공 간 연계 혹은 학문 간 융합 구성을 통해 다양한 학문을 넘나드는 진로·학문 탐색을 유도하고 있다. [결론] 국내 1학년 세미나가 전공 전 핵심 교육과정으로 기능할 수 있도록 구조적 전환이 요구된다. 이를 위해 세미나의 목적을 진로 설계 중심으로 재정립하고, 교수학습 방법을 참여 중심·체험 중심 방식으로 전환하며, 전공 선택 및 융합 교육과의 제도적 연계를 강화하는 방향으로 구성해 나갈 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

[Purpose] This study aims to suggest the future direction of first-year seminar courses in Korean universities under the institutional context of the undeclared major system. By comparing similar exploratory programs at overseas universities, the study seeks to derive implications for supporting academic and career design. [Methods] A qualitative case study was conducted based on Bereday’s comparative education framework and Yin’s multiple-case embedded design. First-year seminar courses from eight universities across North America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania were analyzed in five categories: course objectives, teaching and learning methods, assessment practices, institutional linkage, and interdisciplinary integration. [Results] Most overseas universities offer first-year seminars as career design-oriented courses, focusing on students’ academic exploration and self-directed planning. These seminars use student-centered teaching methods such as discussion, group projects, and project-based learning, and adopt formative assessments based on assignments, reflection, and participation. The seminars are also structurally integrated with the major selection process and promote interdisciplinary exploration beyond traditional academic boundaries. [Conclusion] Korean first-year seminar courses should be restructured to focus on career design, adopt active and experiential learning, and strengthen ties to major selection and interdisciplinary education.
