국문 초록

고려 한시에 등장하는 대부분의 이미지는 중국 문화적 맥락에서 유래했으나, ‘여강(驪江)’이라는 지리적 이미지는 한국 고유의 것이다. 여강은 경기도 여주시에 위치한 평범한 하천이지만, 고려 후기부터 문인들의 한시에 빈번히 등장하며 점차 심미적 특성을 지닌 시적 이미지로 승화되었다. 특히 이규보(李奎報), 민사평(閔思平), 이집(李集), 이색(李穡), 김구용(金九容) 등의 작품에서 ‘여강’은 단순한 지명에서 문학적 이미지로, 나아가 여강과 연결된 이미지들과 함께 은일(隱逸)을 중심으로 한 상징적인 심미적 이미지로 발전하였다. 지리적 이미지 ‘여강’은 고려 문인들이 추구한 선(善), 미(美), 풍류(風流) 등 심미적 이상을 담아내며 고려 한시 중의 아주 중요한 심미적 이미지로 자리매김했다. ‘여강’ 이미지의 형성은 문학과 지리의 상호작용을 구현하고 ‘지리적 이미지-문학적 이미지-심미적 이미지’의 3단계 승화 과정을 보여주며 한국 전통 미학 범주 중 하나인 ‘풍류’(風流)의 미학적 스타일을 드러낸다. 시의 기본 구성 요소인 지리적 이미지로서 ‘여강’은 창작 주체, 외부 세계, 텍스트 세계를 연결하며 문학과 미학의 유기적 결합을 이룸으로써 ‘지리-문학-미학’ 삼위일체의 미학 체계를 완성시켰다.

영문 초록

While most images in Goryeo Chinese poetry originate from Chinese cultural contexts, the geographical image of the 'Yeogang' is uniquely Korean. The Yeogang, an ordinary waterway in Yeoju City, Gyeonggi Province, Korea, began to appear frequently in the Chinese poetry of Goryeo literati during the late Goryeo period. It gradually evolved into a poetic imagery imbued with aesthetic significance. In the works of scholars such as Yi Gyubo, Min Sa-pyeong, Yi Jip, Yi Saek, and Kim Gu-yong, the 'Yeogang' transformed from a mere toponym into a literary symbol. Alongside related imagery clusters, it sublimated into an aesthetic image centered on reclusion symbolism, embodying their pursuit of virtue, beauty, and cultural refinement (pung-ryu). This established the Yeogang as a crucial aesthetic archetype in Goryeo Chinese poetry. The formation of the Yeogang image reflects the dynamic interplay between literature and geography, demonstrating the evolutionary process from geographical entity to literary symbol and ultimately to aesthetic image. It exemplifies the Korean traditional aesthetic concept of pung-ryu while serving as a nexus connecting creators, the external world, and text. This image bridges literature and aesthetics, constructing a trinity of 'geography-literature-aesthetics'.
