사이죠 야소(西条八十)의 프랑스 유학 고찰

국문 초록

In this paper, I analyze Saijō Yaso’s study abroad in France from 1924 to 1926. His study in France had been considered necessary since he became a lecturer in the department of French literature at Waseda University. His plan, however, had to be postponed due to the impact of the Great Kantō Earthquake. The process was suddenly expedited when his best friend, Ken Yanagisawa, was assigned to the Paris embassy as a diplomat. Saijō became homesick immediately after arriving in France and even considered calling his family to his place. First, he depicted his feelings of homesickness in the poems Mūdon-no Okaand Kaisō. Second, he depicted the vibrant metropolitan life of young people in Paris in the poems Pari-no Wakamonoand Pari-no Yuki, and he depicted various new cultural experiences in the poems Seinu-no Yoruand Futatsu-no Kotoba. Finally, he shared a room with the young female Western- style painter, Motoko Yamagishi, and this experience underpinned his ‘love story’, depicted in Pari-no Kiriand Hanatsumi.

영문 초록

本稿では1924年から26年までの西条八十のフランス留学について考察した。彼のフランス留学の必要性は、彼が早稲田大学仏文科の講師になったときから言われた。しかし、関東大震災の影響で延期せざるを得なかったが、親友の柳沢健が外交官としてのパリ大使館に赴任することになって急に進められた。そして、『婦人之友』の支援でパリへ美術勉強に行く若い女性洋画家山岸元子と同じ船に乗って行った。 西条はフランスに着いてまもなく深刻なホームシックにかかり、家族を呼ぼうとしたりした。まず、ホームシックに悩まされる心情を、詩「ムードンの丘」「回想」で描いていた。次に、詩「パリの若者」「パリの雪」ではパリの若者たちの華やかな大都市生活の様子を、詩「セイヌの夜」「二つの言葉」には様々な異文化体験が詠まれていた。最後に、画家山岸元子とのルームシェア体験を基に、詩「パリの霧」「花摘み」では<恋物語>を作り上げていた。
