국문 초록

｢사물요의｣에는 윤행임이 ‘薪智島’ 유배생활을 하면서 지난날의 과오를 되돌아보며 반성하는 ‘自省’의식이 담겨있다. 제목에서도 알 수 있듯이 ‘四勿’을 통한 ‘克己復禮’의 가르침을 잊지 않기 위해 ‘三經’과 ‘二禮’[『예기』·『의례』] 가운데 ‘視’·‘聽’·‘言’·‘動’에 대해 경계와 가르침으로 삼을 만한 것을 채록하고 자신의 견해를 덧붙였다. 이번 논의에서는 『주역』을 활용한 사례를 검토해 보았다. ｢사물요의｣에서 ‘삼경’과 ‘이례’의 활용 순서는, 『주역』 - 『서경』 - 『시경』 - 『예기』 - 『의례』의 순으로 되어있다. 그 중 『주역』의 구절을 제일 먼저 인용하여 풀이하였다. 윤행임이 『주역』을 첫 번째로 인용한 이유는 다름이 아니라, 공자가 ‘사물’의 논리를 발명해 내기 위해 처음 공부를 시작한 곳이 바로 『주역』의 34번째 괘인 ｢(뢰천)대장｣의 ‘예가 아니면 행하지 말라[非禮弗履]’에서였기 때문이다. 『주역』은 윤행임 경학의 핵심이다. 그는 자신의 학문적 근원처를 『주역』에서 찾았다. 『신호수필』에 나오는 經史해석의 풀이 방법은 그러한 사실을 잘 보여준다. 『주역』을 활용하여 윤행임이 ｢사물요의｣에서 말하고자 하는 것은 ‘자성’에 의한 ‘극기복례’이며, 그 방법을 ‘사물’의 수양과 ‘誠’·‘敬’ 그리고 ‘義’의 方正한 실천을 통해 얻고자 하였다.

영문 초록

｢Samul-youi(四勿要義)｣ contains the consciousness of ‘Reflect on oneself’ in which Yun Haeng-im looks back and reflects on his past mistakes while living in exile in ‘Sinjido(薪智島).’ As you can see from the title, in order to not forget the teaching of ‘Overcoming oneself and returning to Li’ through ‘Samul(Four things not to do_四勿)’, ‘see’, ‘listen’, ‘speak’, ‘act’ among ‘Samgyeong(Three Classics)’ and ‘Irye’ [『Liji』·『Yili』(禮記·儀禮)]. I recorded things that could be used as warnings and teachings and added his own opinions. In this discussion, we reviewed cases using 『I Ching(周易)』. The order of use of ‘Samgyeong(三經)’ and ‘Irye’ in ｢Samul-youi｣ is in the following order: 『I Ching』-『Shujing(Book of Documents_書經)』-『Shijing(Classic of Poetry_詩經)』-『Liji(Book of Rites)』-『Yili(Ceremonies and Rites)』. Among them, passages from the 『I Ching』 were first quoted and interpreted. The reason why Yoon Haeng-im cited 『I Ching』 for the first time is the place where Confucius first started studying to invent the logic of ‘Samul’ is the 34th trigram of 『I Ching』, ｢(Roe-cheon)Daejang｣. This is because ‘Do not do anything unless it is proper.[非禮弗履]’ 『I Ching』 lies at the core of Yoon Haeng-im’s Confucian scholarship. He found the intellectual foundation of his studies in the 『I Ching』. This perspective is clearly demonstrated through his interpretive approach to the Classics and Histories as seen in the 『Shin-ho Essay』(『薪湖隨筆』). What Yoon Haeng-im seeks to convey in ｢Samul-youi｣ through the use of the 『I Ching』 is ‘Reflect on oneself’ as a means to achieve ‘Overcoming oneself and returning to Li(克己復禮)’. He aimed to attain this through the cultivation of ‘Samul’ and the upright, disciplined practice of ‘Seong(誠)·kyong(敬)’ and ‘ Eui(義)’.
