은퇴한 베이비부머의 학습기반 실천활동 연구: 위례인생학교를 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 베이비부머의 대규모 은퇴에 따른 노년 인구로의 유입과 늘어난 수명만큼 길어진 노년기를 자신의 상황에 맞게 다양한 선택을 통해 참여할 수 있는 노년기 학습공동체 활동에 대하여 탐색한다. 실천공동체(Community of Practice, CoP) 이론에 근거하여 영국 제 3기 인생대학(University of the Third Age, U3A)의 노년기 자조 학습공동체 정신을 실천하고 있는 위례인생학교의 특징 및 연구참여자들의 학습형성 과정을 분석하였다. 연구참여자의 인생학교에서의 학습경험이 구성원 사이의 상호관계를 구성하고 유지하며 개인은 물론, 학습을 실천하는 공동체의 일원으로서의 정체성을 함께 형성 및 유지해 가는 것을 확인하였으며 해당 사례를 우리 사회 베이비부머의 노년기 학습공동체 활동으로서 노년기 평생교육의 유효한 한 유형이라는 점을 주장한다. 길어진 노년을 가치 있고 소중한 시간으로 변화시킬 수 있는 가능성을 확인하고 새로운 노년기 학습자인 베이비부머가 처한 현실적 문제와 이에 대한 개선점을 제언하였다는 점에서 본 연구의 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

This research aims to explore the learning-based practice activity of retired baby boomers during their extended senior years, which seem to be longer due to increased life expectancy. This activity offers diverse and personalized options for engagement in later life. Based on the theory of communities of practice(CoP) as an analytical tool, the research investigates the characteristics of the learning community of the Wirye Life School, which embodies the self-help philosophy of the UK's U3A, as well as the characteristics of the research participants and the process of learning formation. The research explores how the Life School is operated and how the active participation of participants leads to learning at the individual, organizational, and community levels. The study found that the learning experiences of the participants in the Life School help shape and maintain their relationships, while also forming both individual and organizational identities. This case suggests that Baby Boomers' learning community activities can serve as a viable model for lifelong education in their senior years. The significance of this study lies in its demonstration of the potential to transform extended later life into a valuable and meaningful period, while also offering insights into practical challenges and suggestions for improvement.
