동화구연 인지프로그램에 참여한 허약노인의 경험에 관한 연구: J노인주간보호센터를 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 J노인주간보호센터에서 운영 중인 동화구연 인지프로그램에 참여하고 있는 허약노인들의 경험을 토대로, 초고령사회에 주목해야 할 허약노인을 위한 교육적 접근의 가능성과 방향성을 논의하기 위한 목적으로 수행하였다. 연구를 위하여 J노인주간보호센터 동화구연 인지프로그램에 참여하는 6명의 허약노인을 인터뷰하여 그들이 가진 경험의 의미구조를 찾아 기술하였다. 연구의 결과는 첫째, 참여자들의 신체적 허약은 심리적이고 생활적인 면에까지 반영되어 나타나고 있었다. 둘째, 동화구연 인지프로그램의 참여자들은 자기효능감을 느끼며, 사회적 상호작용의 소통을 경험하고 있었다. 셋째, 참여자들은‘다시 삶’을 향한 자신의 변화를 인지하고 삶의 의미와 성장을 위한 실천적 변화를 보였다. 이를 통해 노인을 위한 인지프로그램이 평생교육적 맥락에서 이해되고 교육적으로 접근하여야 함을 확인하였다. 또한 허약노인의 특수성을 이해하고 교육적 욕구에 주목하는 연구들과 허약노인을 돌보는 복지기관에 그들의 욕구를 고려한 다양한 교육 프로그램의 도입이 필요함을 제언하였다.

영문 초록

This study began by examining the experiences of frail elderly people who participated in the J Senior Day Care Center’s storytelling cognitive program that has been in operation for 8 years and 9 months, and discussing the educational approach to cognitive programs for frail elderly people who should be noted in a super-aging society. For the study, six frail elderly people who participated in the J Senior Day Care Center’s storytelling cognitive program were interviewed and the semantic structure of their experiences was described. The results of the study were as follows: First, the participants’ physical frailty was reflected in their psychological and living aspects. Second, the participants in the storytelling cognitive program felt self-efficacy and experienced communication in social interaction. Third, the participants recognized their own changes toward ‘living again’ and showed practical changes for the meaning and growth of life. Through consideration of these results, we propose that cognitive programs for the elderly be understood in the context of lifelong education and approached educationally. In addition, it is necessary to understand the special characteristics of frail elderly people and pay attention to their educational needs, and to introduce various educational programs that take into account their needs in welfare institutions that care for frail elderly people.
