국문 초록

이 연구는 1910~1920년대 게일, 기쿠치 유호, 이광수 등 세 사람이 쓴 금강산 기행문을 이용하여 그들의 금 강산 여행을 복원하고, 그들이 여행 후에 금강산을 어떻게 인식하였는지 살펴보는 데 초점을 맞추었으며, 조선시 대 여행자들의 금강산 여행 과정과 산 인식과의 비교도 시도하였다. 세 사람의 여행은 준비과정, 교통수단, 숙박 및 식사, 안내자, 조력자 등에서 조선시대의 여행과 달라진 양상을 보였다. 세 사람의 여정은 금강산에 관한 지식과 개 인적 성향 등에 따라 차이를 보였으며, 여정의 차이는 금강산 인식에 차이를 가져왔다. 게일과 기쿠치 유호는 객관 적이고 실용적인 관점에서 금강산을 인식한 데 비해, 이광수는 주관적인 관점에서 금강산을 인식하였으며 조선시 대 사대부의 금강산 인식과 유사하였다. 이러한 인식의 차이는 개인의 성향과 경험, 지적인 스펙트럼, 그리고 문화 적 배경이 결합된 결과였다. 그러나 자료의 제한으로 세 사람의 인식을 더 다양한 관점에서 분석하지 못했다는 연 구의 한계도 존재한다

영문 초록

This study focused on restoring their trip to Geumgangsan Mountain using travel writings written by three people, James Scarth Gale, Yuho Kikuchi, and Lee Kwang-soo in the 1910s and 1920s, and examining how they perceived Geumgangsan Mountain after the trip, and also attempted to compare the travel process of Geumgangsan Mountain and the perception of mountains of travelers during the Joseon Dynasty. The three people’s trip showed different patterns from the travel of the Joseon Dynasty in terms of preparation process, transportation, accommodation and meals, guides, and helpers. The three people’s itineraries differed according to their knowledge about Geumgangsan Mountain and personal inclinations, and the differences in their itineraries led to differences in their perceptions of Geumgangsan Mountain. While Gail and Yuho Kikuchi recognized Geumgangsan Mountain from an objective and practical perspective, Lee Kwang-soo recognized Geumgangsan Mountain from a subjective perspective which was similar to the perceptions of Geumgangsan Mountain by the scholars of the Joseon Dynasty. This difference in perception was the result of combining personal inclinations, experiences, intellectual spectrums, and cultural backgrounds. However, there is also a limitation of the study in that the perceptions of the three people could not be analyzed from more diverse perspectives due to data limitations.
