김초엽 소설에 나타난 장애 정치와 취약성의 윤리

국문 초록

김초엽은 과학과 기술이 장애에 미치는 영향과 장애 당사자들의 경험에 주목하면서 SF소설을 통한 사고실험의 가능성을 모색한다. 본고는 김초엽 소설에 나타난 장애의 양상을 통해 장애와 기술의 관계를 살피고 나아가 사이보그 이미지를 통해 드러나는 장애 정치와 취약함의 윤리를 고찰했다. 먼저 ｢인지공간｣은 신체적 조건으로 인지 공간에 진입할 수 없는 이브를 통해 손상을 장애로 만드는 정상성이 사회문화적으로 다르게 구성됨을 보여준다. ｢므레모사｣에서 유안은 재활을 통해 성공적으로 재기하지만 결국 도약과 정지의 위계가 전도된 므레모사를 선택함으로써 치유폭력에 저항한다. 이러한 반치유 서사를 통해 비장애중심주의를 비판하고 장애를 가진 몸으로 현재를 살아가는 대안적인 가능성을 보여준다. 한편 김초엽 소설은 기계와 불완전하게 의존하는 인물을 통해 불구화된 사이보그의 정치를 실현한다. ｢로라｣에서 로라는 트랜스에이블드로서 장애와 비장애의 전환을 평등하게 만드는 장애 정치를 행한다. ｢마리의 춤｣은 모그들이 플루이드라는 기술과 협상하고 서로 연대함으로써 장애 프라이드 운동을 벌인다. 여기서 불구화된 사이보그는 트랜스휴먼의 낙관을 실현하는 신화화된 사이보그가 아니며 정상성을 횡단하기 위해 신체의 고통을 삭제하는 해러웨이의 사이보그와도 차이를 지닌다. 마지막으로 ｢선인장 끌어안기｣와 ｢순례자들은 왜 돌아오지 않는가｣는 장애를 가진 인물과 인물, 장애 인물과 비장애 인물이 사랑하고 돌보는 세계를 통해 상호의존의 윤리를 성찰한다. 인간 향상의 기술보다 인간 존재의 취약함을 응시하고 상호의존에 의해 다양한 몸이 있는 그대로 세계를 경험하기를 바라는 것이다. 이는 포스트휴먼 시대에 장애를 가진 몸의 취약함이 제기하는 윤리라고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

Kim Cho-yeop explores the possibilities of thought experiments with her science fiction, focusing on the impact of science and technology on disabilities and the experiences of people with disabilities. This study examined relations between disabilities and technologies based on the patterns of disabilities in Kim Cho-yeop’s science fiction and further delved into disability politics and the ethics of vulnerability revealed through cyborg images. “Space of Cognition” shows how normality to turn damage into a disability is composed differently in society and culture with Eve who cannot enter a space of cognition due to her physical conditions. In Mremosa, Yu-an makes a successful comeback after rehabilitation but ends up choosing Mremosa where the hierarchy of leap and stop is reversed, resisting the violence of healing. By telling such anti-healing narratives, the author criticizes ableism and shows alternative possibilities to live in the present with a disabled body. Kim Cho-yeop’s Science Fiction realize the politics of crippled cyborgs with her characters who have incomplete dependence on machines. In “Laura”, Laura does disability politics to make a switch between disability and non-disability equal as a transabled. In “Marie's Dance”, Mogs engage in a movement of pride in disabilities by negotiating with the Fluid technology and making alliances with each other. In this novel, disabled cyborgs are not mythfied cyborgs that implement transhuman optimism and are different from Haraway's cyborgs that delete physical pain to cross normality. Finally, “Hugging a Cactus” and “Why Did Not Pilgrims Come Back” contemplate the ethics of interdependence by depicting a world in which characters with disabilities and no disabilities and also disabled people and non-disabled people love and take care of each other. Kim Cho-yeop looks at the vulnerability of human beings rather than technologies to enhance people and wishes that individuals with various bodies will experience the world as it is based on interdependence. It is ethics raised by the vulnerability of bodies with disabilities in the posthuman era.
