『울산문학』에 나타난 공업화에 관한 문학적 대응 양상 - 권두언과 시 작품을 중심으로

국문 초록

본고는 한국문인협회 울산지부의 기관지인 『울산문학』에 수록된 권두언과 시 작품을 중심으로 울산 지역 공업화에 대한 문학적 대응 양상을 고찰하였다. 울산 지역의 문학 활동은 특정 기관에 국한되지 않고 다양한 작가 집단과 동인 활동을 통해 다채롭게 전개되었으나, 그중에서도 한국문인협회 울산지부는 울산 문단의 제도화와 연속성 구축에 핵심적인 역할을 수행해 왔다. 『울산문학』은 지역 문단과 문화 형성을 위한 고민을 지속하는 한편 공업화와 도시화로 인해 사라져가는 울산의 장소 정체성을 회복하고자 하는 노력을 함께 추구하였다. 특히 1980년대까지 향토성과 순수성을 지향하는 노선을 견지하며 시 작품에서는 공업화와 도시화가 진행된 장소를 형상화하고 이를 바라보는 시인의 시각을 담아냈다. 『울산문학』에 수록된 시 작품들에서는 공업화로 인해 소멸한 옛 장소를 향한 안타까움이 드러나며, 도심지를 형상화한 시편에서는 도시인의 고단한 현실과 소외감이 묘사되었다. 그러나 이러한 묘사는 직접적인 현실 비판으로 이어지기보다는 상실된 가치를 향한 안타까운 마음을 드러내는 데 초점이 맞추어졌다. 이 과정에서 시인이 부여한 장소 정체성은 본질적인 삶의 가치와 맞닿은 그리움과 향수에 가까운 것으로 확인되었다.

영문 초록

This paper examines literary responses to the industrialization of the Ulsan region, focusing on the preface and poetry included in the Ulsan branch of the Korean Writers’ Association’s journal, Ulsan Literature. While literary activities in the Ulsan region were not limited to specific organizations and were diversely carried out through various groups of writers and literary circles, the Ulsan branch of the Korean Writers’ Association played a key role in institutionalizing and establishing continuity in the Ulsan literary world. While Ulsan Literature continued to ponder the formation of a local literary world and culture, it also sought to restore Ulsan’s place identity, which was disappearing due to industrialization and urbanization. In particular, it maintained a line that pursued locality and purity until the 1980s, and in its poetry, it depicted places where industrialization and urbanization had occurred and contained the poet’s perspective on them. In the poems included in Ulsan Literature, the regret for old places that have disappeared due to industrialization is revealed, and in poems depicting urban areas, the harsh reality and alienation of city dwellers are described. However, these descriptions focus on expressing regret for lost values rather than directly criticizing reality. In this process, the place identity given by the poet was confirmed to be close to longing and nostalgia that are in line with the essential values of life.
