국문 초록

리얼리즘을 선험적 진리로 간주하는 풍토를 강하게 비판한 김현은 1980년대 들어 현실주의 개념을 작품 분석·평가에 적극적으로 활용한다. 본고는 1980년대 김현의 평론에 자주 활용된 현실주의 개념의 이중적 양태에 대한 연구가 부족했다는 문제의식에서 출발하여, 김현 비평에 나타난 현실주의 두 양태와 그 내적 논리를 분석한 후 이를 토대로 김현이 지향한 총체성과 문학적 자율성의 의미를 새롭게 조명하고자 하였다. 2장에서는 김현의 김원일론에 나타난 객관적 현실주의와 총체성 개념을 검토하였다. 김현에 따르면 김원일은 총체적 현실 파악 욕망을 보여주는데 김원일이 지향한 총체성은 재현적 리얼리즘의 그것과는 명확히 차별화된다. 김원일은 현실/욕망의 갈등에 대한 탐구를 통해 고통의 뿌리가 개인과 사회 모두에 닿아 있다는 깨달음을 보여준다. 김원일론을 통해 김현은 문학의 총체성이란 삶이 현실과 욕망의 상호작용임을 인식하게 하는 과정이란 점을 부각시킨다. 3장에서는 김현의 이청준론에 나타난 부정적 현실주의 개념을 분석하였다. 김현이 말하는 이청준의 부정적 현실주의는 고통의 현실 이외의 곳에서 초월·구원을 찾지 않으려는 정신적 태도를 의미한다. 부정적 현실주의는 꿈으로서의 문학이 초월주의나 도피주의로 변질되지 않기 위해 필요한 창작 방법론이자 세계관으로 요청된다. 김현의 현실주의가 객관적 현실주의와 부정적 현실주의의 두 가지 이질적 양태로 나타난 이유는 김현이 설정한 총체성 개념과 욕망의 양면성에서 찾을 수 있다. 김현에게 삶의 총체성은 현실과 욕망의 얽힘 그 자체이기 때문에 욕망을 소외시키는 형태의 총체성은 욕망의 이름 하에 부정의 대상이 된다. 욕망의 뿌리에 대한 성찰을 통해 욕망와 사회의 관계를 탐구하면서(객관적 현실주의), 욕망이 도피적·이기적 형태로 발현되지 않도록 현실이 구원의 장소라는 세계관이 요청된다.(부정적 현실주의)그러나 김현의 현실주의와 문학적 자율성을 위태롭게 하는 것이 다름 아닌 욕망 그 자체라는 점은 김현 비평이 처한 최대의 딜레마이다. 욕망은 개인과 사회의 공통의 근원인데, 욕망은 유토피아적 열망과 파괴성이라는 모순적 형태로 나타날 수 있다. 이로 인해 현실의 ‘있는 그대로의 드러냄’이라는 현실주의의 목표는 욕망의 고착화(이데올로기화)에 대한 의심·경계 속에서만 의미를 지니게 된다. 4장에서는 김현의 현실주의와 4·19세대로의 김현의 자유 개념의 대응 관계를 살펴보았다. 김현에게 4·19는 환희와 절망의 양면성을 지니고 있고, 이것은 김현이 문학에서 추구한 자유의 이중성과 정확히 대응된다. 김현이 지향하는 총체성은 오직 문학 속에서만 가능하고 역사·현실은 언제나 문학적 총체성에 비추어 부정되어야 할 대상이 된다. 문학을 통해 유토피아적 상태를 경험한 의식은 총체화의 대상인 역사·현실로부터의 분리를 수용해야 한다. 이것은 꿈으로서의 문학론과 부정적 현실주의를 채택한 비평이 맞이할 수밖에 없는 필연적 운명일 것이다.

영문 초록

Kim Hyun, who strongly criticized the climate that regards realism as an a priori truth, actively uses the concept of realism in the analysis and evaluation of works in the 1980s. Starting from the awareness of the problem that interest and research on the concept of realism that was frequently used in Kim Hyun's criticism in the 1980s were insufficient, this paper analyzed the two aspects of realism and its internal logic in Kim Hyun's criticism, and based on this, tried to shed new light on the meaning of totality and literary autonomy that Kim Hyun's realism aims for. In Chapter 2, the concept of objective realism and totality in Kim Hyun's Kim Won-il theory was reviewed. According to Kim Hyun, Kim Won-il shows the desire to grasp the total reality, and the totality that Kim Won-il aims for is clearly differentiated from that of representational realism. Kim Won-il shows the realization that the root of pain reaches both individuals and society through the exploration of the conflict of reality/desire. Through Kim Won-il's theory, Kim Hyun emphasizes that the totality of literature is a process that makes people recognize that life is an interaction between reality and desire. In Chapter 3, the concept of negative realism in Kim Hyun's Lee Chung-jun theory was analyzed. Lee Chung-jun's negative realism that Kim Hyun refers to a mental attitude not to seek transcendence and salvation outside of the reality of pain. Negative realism is requested as a creative methodology and worldview necessary for literature as a dream not to be transformed into transcendentalism or escapism. The reason why Kim Hyun's realism appeared in two heterogeneous forms, objective realism and negative realism, can be found in the concept of totality and the duality of desire set by Kim Hyun. For Kim Hyun, since the totality of life is the entanglement between reality and desire itself, the totality in the form of alienating desire becomes the object of negation in the name of desire. While exploring the relationship between desire and society through reflection on the roots of desire (objective realism), a worldview is requested that reality is a place of salvation so that desire does not manifest in an escapist and selfish form. (negative realism)However, the fact that it is none other than desire itself that jeopardizes Kim Hyun's realism and literary autonomy is the biggest dilemma facing Kim Hyun's criticism. Desire is a common source of individual/society, and desire can appear in contradictory forms of utopian aspiration and destructiveness. For this reason, the goal of realism to reveal as it is in reality has meaning only in doubts and boundaries about the fixation (ideologicalization) of desire. In Chapter 4, the correspondence between Kim Hyun's realism and Kim Hyun's concept of freedom to the Sil-gu generation was examined. For Kim Hyun, Sil-gu has both sides of joy and despair, which exactly corresponds to the duality of freedom that Kim Hyun pursued in literature. The totality that Kim Hyun aims for is only possible in literature, and history and reality are always objects that should be denied in the light of literary totality. Consciousness that has experienced a utopian state through literature must embrace separation from history and reality, which is the object of totalization. This will be an inevitable fate that a criticism adopting literary theory and negative realism as a dream must face.
