『조선동화대집』에 나타난 신화성 고찰

국문 초록

본고의 목적은 우리말 최초의 동화집이자 설화집인 『조선동화대집(朝鮮童話大集)』에 나타난 신화성(神話性)을 살피는 것이었다. 신화성은 신화의 요소나 특성인데, 기원성(起源性), 영웅성(英雄性), 제의성(祭儀性) 등으로 분석했다. 먼저, 『조선동화대집』에서 신화와 관련된 이야기 유형을 4가지로 나누어 살펴보았다. 첫째, 도깨비 소재의 이야기는 신화에 나타난 도깨비의 부신성(富神性)을 형상화하고 있었다. 이는 신화의 신화성인 기원성을 반영한 것으로 보았다. 둘째, 영웅신화의 변형 이야기는 이야기의 주인공이 자신에게 주어진 결핍을 우연이나 지혜나 능력으로 극복해 내었다. 그래서 이들 이야기는 신화의 신화성인 영웅성을 반영하고 있는 것으로 보았다. 셋째, 신화에 형상화된 이야기는, 이야기에 나타난 장면이 신화의 왕의 살해, 신령의 좌정, 악령 퇴치, 보물 되찾음과 비슷했는데, 신화의 제의성, 기원성, 영웅성 등을 반영하고 있었다. 넷째, 동물의 신성성 이야기에는 신화에 나타난 조력자, 괴물 퇴치의 영웅, 토템 등을 형상화하고 있었다. 이는 신화의 신화성인 영웅성, 제의성이 민담에 반영된 것으로 보았다. 그다음, 위에서 살핀 4유형에 나타난 신화성인 기원성, 영웅성, 제의성이 어떤 의미가 있는지를 분석해 보았다. 그 의미는 각각 ‘부귀영화의 욕망과 경계’, ‘영웅적 능력의 개인화’, ‘신화의 변형과 전파’, ‘우화의 형성과 전개’라고 할 수 있었다. 그리고 이러한 신성성의 양상과 의미가 지니는 서사문학적 의의는 주제의 세속화와 인물의 개인화, 화소의 전승과 확산, 인물의 우의성(寓意性)과 담론의 다양화 등이었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper was to examine the mythical nature in the Great Book of Joseon Fairy Tales, the first collection of fairy tales and folktales in Korea. Mythical nature is an element or characteristic of a myth, and it was analyzed based on original nature, heroism, and ritual feature. First, the story of the goblin material embodied the wealth of the goblin in the myth. This was considered to reflect the mythical origin of the myth. Second, in the story of the transformation of the heroic myth, the protagonist of the story overcame the deficiencies given to him by chance, wisdom, or ability. So, these stories were viewed as reflecting the mythological spirit of heroism. Third, the story embodied in the myth was similar to the murder of the king of the myth, the being seated of the spirit, the eradication of evil spirits, and the recovery of treasure, reflecting the ritual, origin, and heroism of the myth. Fourth, in the story of animal divinity, the helpers in myths, heroes to kill monsters, and totems were embodied. This was seen as reflecting the mythological spirit of heroism and ritualism in the folk tale. Next, we analyzed the meaning of the origin, heroism, and ritualism, which are the myths that appeared in the four types examined above. Its meaning could be said to be ‘desire and alert of wealth and honor’, ‘personalization of heroic abilities’, ‘transformation and propagation of myths’, and ‘formation and development of fables’, respectively. And the narrative literary significance of this aspect and meaning of sacredness was secularization of the subject, personalization of characters, transmission and diffusion of motifs, the allegorical nature of characters and diversification of discourse.
