훈련도감자본 『名世文宗』의 문헌학적 연구

국문 초록

『名世文宗』은 明 胡時化가 1577년 무렵에 편찬한 고문선집으로, 17세기 중반 조선에서 훈련도감자로 간행되었다. 조선에 유입된 중국본 『명세문종』은 크게 5종으로 나눌 수 있는데, 훈련도감자본의 저본은 1628년 무렵 간행된 陳仁錫 訂正本이다. 진인석 정정본은 여러 판본 가운데 가장 많은 수량인 679편의 산문이 수록되어 있고, 206명의 비평가가 남긴 1,051건의 다채로운 비평이 실려 있어 산문 비평서로의 큰 가치를 지닌다. 아울러 해당 판본에서만 확인되는 ｢刻名世文宗談藪｣는 역대 문장과 문인들에 대한 210건의 비평이 집록되어 있어 더욱 의미가 깊다. 이 같은 진인석 정정본 만의 특징들은 조선에서 『명세문종』이 간행되는 데에 중요한 요인으로 작용했을 것이다. 훈련도감자본 『명세문종』의 간행을 주도한 인물은 당시 교서관 제조를 맡았던 沈詻이다. 심액은 『명세문종』 외에도 『周禮』, 『小學』, 『史略』, 『史漢一統』, 『二程全書』 등 당대 필요한 다양한 서적을 간행하며 조선의 출판문화를 주도하였다. 국내외 도서관에 소장된 훈련도감자본 『명세문종』에는 장서인이 다수 확인되는데, 이를 통해 심액과 연관된 인물들뿐만 아니라 후대 소장자들의 흔적도 함께 찾아볼 수 있다. 훈련도감자본 『명세문종』의 등장은 17세기 조선 문단에서 산문에 대한 관심과 논의가 증대되었음을 뒷받침한다는 점에서 의의를 지닐 수 있다.

영문 초록

The Ming-dynasty prose anthology MíngShì WénZōng (名世文宗) was originally compiled around 1577 by the Chinese scholar Hú Shíhuà (胡時化). In the mid-17th century, it was printed in Joseon by the Hullyeon Dogam-Ja Press. Among the Chinese editions that entered Joseon, there are five principal versions; the woodblock edition produced by the Hullyeon Dogam-Ja Press was based on the recension revised by Chén Rénxī (陳仁錫) around 1628. Of all extant editions, the Chén Rénxī recension preserves the largest corpus—679 prose pieces—and contains 1,051 distinct critical annotations left by 206 commentators, giving it exceptional value as a work of prose criticism. Moreover, it alone includes the “Kè Míng Shì Wén Zōng Tán Sǒu” (刻名世文宗談藪), a collection of 210 critiques on celebrated writings and writers through the ages, which further enhances its significance. These unique features of the Chén Rénxī recension likely played a key role in the decision to print MíngShì WénZōng in Joseon. The individual who oversaw the HullyeonDogam-Ja Press edition was Sim Aek (沈詻), then serving as Director (製造) of the Royal Editorial Office (교서관). In addition to Míng Shì Wén Zōng, Sim Aek supervised the printing of a range of works deemed necessary at the time—Zhōulǐ (周禮), Xiǎoxué (小學), Shǐlüè (史略), ShǐHàn Yītǒng (史漢一統), Èrchéng Quánshū (二程全書), and others—thus shaping Joseon’s publishing culture. Many ownership seals and inscriptions have been identified in surviving copies of the HullyeonDogam-Ja Press MíngShì WénZōng in libraries at home and abroad. These marks not only attest to Sim Aek’s network of associates but also record the subsequent history of the work’s collectors. The appearance of the HullyeonDogam-Ja Press edition of Míng Shì Wén Zōng in 17th-century Joseon is significant evidence of the growing interest in and critical discussion of prose on the Korean literary scene.
