국문 초록

본고는 宋基植(1878~1949)이 한시 입문자를 위해 편찬한 『詩學韻叢』에 수록된 한시 양상과 비점 및 주석의 특징을 분석함으로써, 이 책이 한시 입문서로서 지닌 교육적 가치를 고찰한 것이다. 『시학운총』은 중국･조선･일본의 한시를 다양한 시선집과 개인 문집에서 발췌하여 수록하였다. 중국시 가운데 唐･宋 시가 큰 비중을 차지하는 것은 송기식이 이 시기를 근체시 전범으로 삼았기 때문이다. 조선시는 특정 시대나 인물에 국한하지 않고 고루 발췌하여 전범성과 다양성을 모두 고려하였으며, 특히 송기식의 당대 인물의 시까지 수록한 점은 주목할 만하다. 일본시는 전적으로 藤元昺의 『日本名家詩選』에서 발췌하여 17~18세기 한시들만 수록되어 있으나, 기존 시선집이 중국이나 조선의 시에만 집중했던 것과 달리 일본 한시까지 포함시킨 점에서 그 의의가 크다. 이는 동아시아 한시 전체를 포괄하려는 시도로서, 기존의 시선집과 차별화되는 중요한 특징이다. 또한 『시학운총』의 주석에서 초학자를 배려한 요소가 두드러진다. 예를 들어 排律, 絶句, 無題 등 시어에 대한 해설을 비롯해 吳體, 通韻 등과 같은 근체시의 예외적 형식까지 명시하여 기초 지식이 부족한 초학자들도 이해할 수 있도록 주석을 달았다. 게다가 비평에 대한 주석은 간략하게 서술한 반면, 어휘의 의미나 구절의 함의는 자세히 풀이하여 초학자의 실제 이해에 중점을 두었다. 또한 비점의 경우 ･[小點], ○[白圈], ●[黑圈]을 구분하여 사용하였으며, ●[黑圈]은 韻字마다 표시하고 ･[小點]과 ○[白圈]은 주목해야 할 만한 구절에 표시해두었다. 즉, 『시학운총』은 다양한 주석과 비점을 통해 초학자들이 한시를 효과적으로 이해하고 학습할 수 있도록 돕는 교육 자료이다. 『시학운총』은 비록 초학자의 한시 입문을 주요 목적으로 편찬되었으나 동시에 당시 문인들의 詩學 연구와 作詩에 활용된 참고 자료로도 기능하였다. 송기식이 전통 교육 방식에 일정한 비판적 시각을 지닌 인물이었지만, 『시학운총』의 편찬을 통해 한문이라는 분야의 지속과 전승을 도모하려는 태도 역시 엿볼 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study examines the educational value of Shihakunch'ong 詩學韻叢, an anthology compiled by Song Kisik (宋基植, 1878~1949) for beginning students of classical Chinese poetry. By analyzing the selection of poems, the system of annotations, and the use of critical marks, this paper seeks to clarify the anthology’s function as a pedagogical tool. Shihakunch'ong draws from a wide range of sources, incorporating Chinese, Korean, and Japanese poems excerpted from various anthologies and individual collections. The Chinese selections predominantly feature works from the Tang and Song dynasties, reflecting Song Kisik’s view of these periods as normative models for regulated verse. The Korean selections exhibit a broad representation across periods and authors, including works by Song's contemporaries—a distinctive feature. Although the Japanese selections are limited to 17th-18th century poems drawn exclusively from Fujimoto Akira(藤元昺)’s Nihon Meika Shisen 日本名家詩選, their inclusion marks a significant departure from the Sino-Korean focus of earlier anthologies and suggests an effort to encompass the wider East Asian poetic tradition. The annotations in Shihakunch'ong display a clear attentiveness to the needs of beginners. Song provided concise explanations of poetic forms such as Regulated verse(P'ailyul, 排律), Quatrain(Chŏlgu, 絶句), and Untitled poem(Mut'ae, 無題), along with clarification of exceptional formats like wu-ti (吳體) and tongyun (通韻). His glosses prioritize vocabulary and syntactic comprehension over critical commentary, underscoring the anthology’s instructional purpose. Additionally, critical marks—small dots (･), open circles (○), and filled circles (●)—were employed systematically: filled circles to mark rhyme words, and small dots and open circles to highlight notable lines, thereby aiding readers in navigating the text. Although compiled primarily for pedagogical purposes, Shihakunch'ong also functioned as a reference work for contemporary literati engaged in the study and composition of poetry. Despite Song Kisik’s critical stance toward aspects of traditional education, the anthology ultimately reveals his commitment to the preservation and transmission of classical Chinese literary culture.
