노인에 대한 젊은 세대의 시각과 노인의 자기 인식

국문 초록

본 연구는 젊은 세대가 노인을 어떻게 인식하는지, 그리고 노인이 자신을 어떻게 평가하는지를 탐구하여 세대 간 인식 차이를 심층적으로 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 Colaizzi의 현상학적 연구 방법을 적용하여 연구 참여자들의 경험을 분석하고, 공통된 주제와 차이점을 도출하였다. 연구 결과로는 젊은 세대는 노인을 보수적이며 사회 변화에 적응하지 못하는 집단으로 인식하는 경향이 강하게 나타났다. 특히, 디지털 기술과 현대적 가치관의 차이에서 비롯된 세대 간 소통의 어려움이 이러한 인식을 더욱 심화시키는 것으로 분석되었다. 또한, 젊은 세대는 노인이 젊은 세대의 문화를 이해하지 못하며, 공공장소에서의 예절 문제나 불필요한 간섭으로 인해 갈등을 유발한다고 느끼는 경우가 많았다. 그런데도 일부 젊은 세대는 노인의 경험과 지혜에서 배울 점이 많다고 평가하며, 세대 간 교류의 필요성을 인정하고 있었다. 한편, 노인들은 자신들이 사회적으로 존중받지 못하며 점점 소외되고 있다고 느끼는 경우가 많았다. 특히, 경제적 불안정성과 사회적 역할의 감소로 인해 자신들의 가치가 평가절하되고 있다는 인식하고 있었다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 여전히 사회에 기여할 수 있는 능력이 있으며 적극적인 역할을 수행할 의지가 있음을 강조하였다. 또한, 가족과의 관계를 중요한 요소로 인식하며, 가족 내에서 정서적 안정감을 찾으려는 경향이 두드러졌다. 본 연구는 젊은 세대와 노인 세대 간의 인식 차이가 단순한 세대 차이를 넘어 사회적, 경제적, 문화적 요인과 밀접하게 연관되어 있음을 시사한다. 이러한 차이가 방치될 경우 세대 간 갈등을 심화시킬 가능성이 있으며, 상호 이해를 증진하고 긍정적인 세대 간 관계를 형성하기 위해 보다 적극적인 사회적·정책적 접근이 필요하다. 특히, 노인의 사회적 참여를 촉진하고, 세대 간 소통을 활성화할 수 있는 프로그램과 정책적 지원이 요구된다. 본 연구의 결과는 세대 간 갈등을 완화하고 조화로운 사회를 형성하는 데 있어 기초적인 자료를 제공할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

This study aims to analyze generational perception differences by exploring how the younger generation views the elderly and how the elderly perceive themselves. To achieve this, Colaizzi's phenomenological research method was applied to examine participants' experiences and identify common themes and differences. The results revealed that the younger generation strongly perceives the elderly as a conservative group struggling to adapt to social change. In particular, difficulties in intergenerational communication—stemming from differences in digital technology use and modern values—further reinforced this perception. Additionally, younger individuals often felt that the elderly lacked an understanding of their culture and contributed to conflicts in public spaces through perceived breaches of etiquette or unnecessary interference. Nevertheless, some members of the younger generation acknowledged the value of the elderly’s experiences and wisdom, recognizing the importance of intergenerational exchange. On the other hand, the elderly often felt socially disrespected and increasingly marginalized. They perceived a decline in their societal value due to economic instability and a reduced social role. Despite these challenges, they emphasized their continued ability to contribute to society and expressed a willingness to remain active. Furthermore, they viewed family relationships as crucial for emotional stability and sought comfort and support within their families. This study suggests that generational perception differences are deeply intertwined with social, economic, and cultural factors, rather than being solely a matter of age. If left unaddressed, these differences may intensify intergenerational conflicts. Therefore, proactive social and policy measures are necessary to foster mutual understanding and cultivate positive intergenerational relationships.
