국문 초록

사실, 현대 영미시사에서 예이츠와 엘리엇을 제외한다면 그것을 정확히 진단할 수 없을 정도로 그 두 시인의 영향력은 대단하다. 흥미롭게도 이 둘은 다르게 보일 것처럼 느껴지지만 유사한 맥락으로 평가될 필요가 있다. 또한 이 둘 사이에 창작 방법 또한 유사한 측면이 많다. 이른바 상징을 기점으로 엘리엇은 객관적 상관물을 추구했다면 예이츠는 흔히 정의하는 낭만주의적 기질을 구조했다는 논점이 매우 이채롭다. 예이츠는 결코 단순한 낭만주의자가 아님을 알 수 있다.

영문 초록

Yeats’s and Eliot’s role in modern poetry is so great that we could not estimate it manifestly. They have the same direction but are a little different; importantly, they reform the history of modern poetry, each playing an essential role in it. And many researchers regard Yeats as a romantic but this paper claims that Yeats has overcome Romanticism. I could find that there are in the poetry of Yeats and Eliot similarities in poetic techniques: in particular, both depend on symbolism in order to hide their own feelings, which is the objectification of subjectivity.
