국문 초록

예이츠는 『부활』에서 예수 그리스도의 이야기를 독특한 방식으로 전개한다. 기독교도와 비기독교도로 구성된 두 종교의 무리로 이루어진 예이츠의 평행 구조의 사용은 종교와 역사에 대한 그들의 다른 생각을 서로 연결 지어 보여주기 위한 것이다. 극 중 노래는 각 무리의 서로 다른 이야기들이 실제로 공유하는 것이 무엇인지 생각할 수 있도록 해 준다. 예이츠가 『부활』을 집필 할 때 노드라마의 요소를 사용하면서 춤 보다는 노래가 가지는 의미에 더 중점을 둔 것으로 볼 수 있다. 처음, 중간, 끝 부분에 노래의 삽입은 노드라마의 영향을 받은 예이츠의 극의 특징이기도 하다. 그러나 음악의 사용이 무대의 처음과 끝의 장식이라는 의미보다는 더 큰 역할을 한다. 노래는 극의 주요 사건들이 내포하는 의미를 밝히는 데에 중요한 장치이다.

영문 초록

In The Resurrection (1932), Yeats uses a unique way of telling the story of Jesus Christ. The play uses a parallel structure in which religious groups of pagans and the Christians are placed side by side to show their ideas of the nature of religion and history for the audience. The songs included in Yeats’s play have a crucial purpose to connect the two different stories of the religious parties. Using Japanese Noh theatre elements, Yeats employs singing more than dancing in The Resurrection; The songs in the beginning, middle, and end are typical of his Noh influenced drama, but they are not simply to open and close the play with music. The songs are important devices to reveal the implications of the play’s major action.
