공주지역 봉수의 입지와 통신체계에 대한 고고 지형학적 검토

국문 초록

본 연구는 공주지역 봉수의 입지 특징을 고고학의 지형학적 관점에서 분석하였다. 공주지역에는 월성산, 고등산, 쌍령산 등 3개소의 봉수가 알려져 있으며, 이들은 10-15km의 직선거리를 두고 입지한다. 일반적으로 봉수는 신호 전달의 효율성을 위해 가장 높은 산지 정상부 를 선호하나, 공주지역의 봉수들은 이러한 전형적 입지 특성과 조금의 차 이를 보인다. 따라서 본고에서는 수치지도를 활용한 3차원 지형분석, 가 시권 분석, 소리 전달 범위 분석 등을 통해 이러한 특징을 검토하였다. 분석 결과, 공주지역의 봉수는 시각적 신호 전달의 한계를 보완하기 위 해 소리 전달과 파발 체계를 고려한 입지 선정이 이루어졌음을 확인하였 다. 특히 역참과 역원의 위치를 고려한 입지 선정도 고려한 모습인데, 이 는 고지형 분석과 고지리 자료를 통해 검증할 수 있었다. 이를 통해 공주 지역 봉수 체계는 단순한 시각적 신호 전달뿐만 아니라, 소리, 역참, 역원 등의 여러 보완적 통신체계를 포함한 종합적 관점에서 입지가 선정되었음을 알 수 있었다. 다만 봉수와 여러 통신 보완 체계의 모습은 추후 동 시대와의 관련성을 통해 더욱 구체적으로 접근할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

This study analyzes the locational characteristics of the beacon mounds (bongsoo) in the Gongju region from an archaeological and paleotopographical perspective. Three beacon mounds are distributed in the region - Wolseongsan, Godeungsan, and Ssangryeongsan - maintaining linear distances of 10-15km between them. While beacon mounds typically prefer the highest mountain peaks for efficient signal transmission, those in the Gongju region show some deviation from this pattern. Through three-dimensional terrain analysis using digital maps, viewshed analysis, and sound transmission range analysis, this study examines the background of these characteristics. The results show that the location selection of Gongju's beacon mounds considered sound transmission and dispatch systems to complement the limitations of visual signal transmission. In particular, the locations were selected in consideration of post stations (yekcham) and post houses (yeokwon), which was verified through paleotopographical analysis and historical geographical data. This research reveals that the beacon system in the Gongju region was established from a comprehensive perspective that included complementary communication systems rather than simple visual signal transmission alone.
