국문 초록

본 연구는 외국인 대학원생이 작성한 학위논문에서 선행연구 검토 부분의 내용 구조를 분석하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 외국인 대학원생의 학위논문 20편에서 선행연구 검토의 내용 구조를 살피고 검토 과정에서 나타나는 문제점을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 학습자들은 선행연구에 대한 요약은 빠짐없이 기술하였으나 선행연구 검토 부분을 시작하거나 마무리 짓는 것을 어려워하고 있었다. 또한 선행연구를 적절하게 요약 및 평가하지 못하고 선행연구의 의의와 한계점을 정확하게 파악하지 못하여 본 연구의 필요성을 논리적으로 기술하고 연구 방향을 제시하는 데 실패하고 있었다. 이는 외국인 대학원생들이 학위논문 쓰기 장르에 대한 이해와 선행연구를 비판적으로 고찰하고 평가하는 능력이 부족함을 설명한다. 이를 해결하기 위해서는 선행연구 검토 부분의 장르에 대한 기초적인 교육과 선행연구를 검토하는 각 단계에 필요한 연습이 충분히 이루어져야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze the content structure of the literature review in dissertations written by foreign graduate students. In order to do so, this study examined the content structure of the literature review section in 20 dissertations written by foreign graduate students and analyzed issues that arose during this process. As a result, it appeared that all of the students included reviews of previous research in their dissertations, but found it difficult to write the introduction or the conclusion of the literature review section of the dissertation. Students also failed to logically prove the significance and present direction of their research because they could not properly summarize or evaluate previous studies and could not assess the significance or the critical points of said studies. This suggests a lack of understanding of the dissertation as a form of writing and an inability to critically consider and assess the preceding studies. In order to solve this problem, it is necessary to provide students with basic education on the genre of the literature review, as well as opportunities to practice every step of the review of previous research.
