국문 초록

프랑스의 영화감독이자 아티스트인 크리스 마르케르에게 영화는 20세기의 유토피아적 기획을 기록하고 기억하는 수단이다. 본 논문은 마르케르의 <붉은 대기>, <태양 없이>, <레벨 파이브>의 역사 재현을 함께 살피며 디지털 기술의 역할과 의미를 살핀다. 이를 위해 본 논문은 <태양 없이>에서 등장한 후 설치작업에서 지속적으로 등장하는 전자 이미지 존(Zone)을 심층분석의 중심대상으로 삼는다. <붉은 대기>에서 역사는 환영적 성격을 드러낸다. <태양 없이>의 존은 환영적 성격을 가진 역사를 재현하는 수단이다. <레벨 파이브>는 디지털 이미지를통해 역사적 재난의 재현불가능성을 성찰한다. 마르케르의 존은 디지털 기술을통해 유사성의 체제에 속한 촬영 이미지를 변형하고, 이미지와 이미지의 연결을해체하고 재연결하는 지대이자 장치다. 존은 의도적인 디지털 탈-연결을 통해 이미지와 이미지의 지시체, 이미지와 관객, 이미지와 시간의 관계를 재배치한다. <태양 없이>는 디지털 변형을 수행하는 존이라는 가상의 지대에서 사실 이미지, 다큐멘터리 이미지, 몽타주 이미지이자 부분 이미지인 역사 이미지에 대한 상상을 펼쳐 보인다. 마르케르의 존은 이미지의 감정, 기억, 상상의 차원을 확장하고, 이미지에 비판적 역사 읽기의 권능을 부여한다. 이러한 전자적 이미지는 유토피아의 기억을 징후의 역사 이미지로 기록한다.

영문 초록

For Chris Ma rker, a French film director and a rtist, movies a re a way to record and remember the utopian project of the twentieth century. This article examines the representation of history in Chris Marker's “A Grin without a Cat”, “Sunless”and “Level Five”, as well as the role of digital image. Specially, we focus on the Zone that, since “Sunless”, appears constantly in his late works. History in these movies reveals its spectral aspects. The Zone, the digital image, is served as a dispositif that makes the historical disasters representable, transforming recorded images which belong to the similarity systeme, disconnecting the continuity of images. The Zone modifies the relationship between images and their references, images and spectators, images and time. The imagination of fact-image, documentary image, montage image and history image is constituted by the Zone in “Sunless”. Marker's Zone extends an image's emotion, memory and imagination, giving the power of critical readability to the image of history. Consequently, this digital image transcribes utopian memories as symptomatic images of history.
