국문 초록

우리는 자신의 몸과 조화를 이루기 어려운 시대에 살고 있다. 신체에 대한 협애한 표준이 상정되고 그에 따라 신체의 획일화가 가속화되는 사회에서 자신의 신체와 그 신체의 경험은 대상화될 뿐이다. 이 연구는 이러한 맥락에서 신체손상이 있는 청소년들이 외부의 부정적 시선 속에서 정체성의 근간이 되는 자기 신체와 어떻게 교류하는지 살펴보았다. 또한 손상이 있는 자신의 신체와 마주하는 과정에 대한 지원이 왜 필요한지, 그 과정을 어떻게 지원할 수 있을지 논의하였다. 연구결과 신체손상은 정체성에 중대한 위협이 될 수 있지만, 다른 한편으로 인간은 나름의 대처방법을 동원하여 정체성을 유지하고자 한다. 또한 손상과 그에 대한 경험은 사회적 요소에 의해서 뿐만 아니라 개인의 자서전적 요소에 의해서 지각되고 평가된다. 그렇기 때문에 특히 신체에 대한 평가가 중요한 의미를 갖는 청소년기에 교육현장에서 학생들이 자신의 손상과 마주할 수 있도록 기회를 제공해야 한다. 이러한 과정을 통해 학생들이 손상과 관련된 경험을 표현하고 소통할 수 있도록 지원하면 자신의 신체와 보다 조화로운 관계를 맺고, 나아가서 삶에 대한 현실적인 전망을 세울 수 있게 될 것이다.

영문 초록

We live in the time where it is difficult to integrate ourselves with our bodies. Our bodies and experiences are only to be objectified under the circumstances where there are narrow criteria for bodies to meet and where bodies are standardized in a certain way. There were three major topics discussed in this study on adolescents with physical impairment: how adolescents with physical impairment interact with their own bodies, which are the root of their identity, against the negative perception outside, why the adolescents’ confrontation with impaired body should be supported, and how to boost up those interacting activities for students with physical impairment. The results were as follows: Physical impairment could be critical to one’s identity, however people tried to keep their identity with coping mechanism. The impairment experiences were recognized and assessed through not only social factors but also individual factors. Students at school should have the opportunity to face their impairment, and express their own experiences about their body. They could develop their own ways of coping and build realistic prospect upon their lives while they communicated with other students with impairment. This necessary process was to be widely supported.
