국문 초록

이 연구에서 연구자는 훌륭한 교사가 되기 위해서는 직위상의 권위와 더불어 실질적인 권위를 가져야 한다는 점을 전제한 후 실질적인 권위의 의미, 종류를 밝히고, 이러한 권위의 사용방법과 정당화 방안을 제시하였다. 특히 교사가 권위를 사용하면서도 권위주의의 유혹에 빠지지 않기 위해서는 권위와 관련된 통제방법들에 대한 깊은 이해가 있어야 하며, 권위를 잠정적인 것으로 다루는 태도가 필요하다는 점을 강조하였다. 나아가 권위의 역설 즉 권위 사용의 가장 큰 목적은 권위의 소멸이라는 의미에서 학습자를 개방적이고 겸손한 태도로 대해야 한다는 점을 제시하였다. 아울러 교사는 자신의 권위행사에 대한 합당한 이유의 제시, 즉 정당화 작업에도 소홀해서는 안 된다는 점을 강조하였다. 왜냐하면 정당화 작업은 교사 본인이 권위의 남용과 오용에서 벗어날 수 있도록 해 주는 합리적 논의의 장치이며, 학습자의 내적 승인과 자발적인 복종을 이끌어낼 수 있는 효과적인 방안이라고 판단했기 때문이다.

영문 초록

The aim of this thesis is to investigate the meaning and modes of actual authority as the quality of good teacher and then to suggest some important implications to school teachers teaching in our school society. Conclusions are as followings. Firstly, researcher tried to find essential meaning and importance of actual authority of teacher. Especially, I classified actual authority as two modes: intellectual authority and control authority. And then I again classified intellectual authority as authority of subject, authority of teaching method, authority of educational aim, and also control authority as directive authority. And I discussed some meanings and importance of having those authority. Secondly, researcher emphasized that ability of right uses and justifications of actual authority are important qualities or possibilities of good teacher. As researchers stressed, it is important to use the authority with rational and democratic procedures. And teachers must understand tentative quality of authority, and more must justify his authority based on rational reasons, especially in the dimensions of intellectual inequality, desirable model of action, development of autonomy. Thirdly, researcher suggested some implications from ahead discussions about actual authority. I stressed that ultimate aim of use of authority by teacher is to eliminate authority. For final aim of teaching is to help students to live autonomously without some control and sanctions by teacher. In the future the problems of right using and its justification of actual authority of school teacher will be more important issues in our changing school society.
