국문 초록

본 연구에서는 수학교과 중심의 STEAM 프로그램이 고등학교 여학생들의 수학 교과에 대한 정의적 특성과 창의적 사고 능력에 미치는 효과를 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 7개월의 연구 기간 동안 ‘과학적 재난안전관리’ 라는 주제로 총 12차시의 수학교과 중심의 STEAM 프로그램을 개발하고, 이를 고등학교 2학년 여학생 44명 에게 3주간 적용하였다. 특히, 효과 분석을 위해 실험집단을 대상으로 사전 검사를 실시하고, 이로부터 9주 후에 사전 검사와 동일한 검사지를 통해 사후 검사를 실시하였다. 대응표본 t-검정 결과에 의하면, 수학에 대한 정의적 특성 및 창의적 사고 능력의 각 하위 요소에 대한 사전, 사후 검사에서 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타나 STEAM 수업이 여학생들의 수학에 대한 흥미, 자신감, 가치인식, 수학불안 요소에 대한 특성을 긍정적으로 변화시키고, 논리ㆍ비판적 사고 및 유창성, 유연성, 독창성의 발달에 효과가 있는 것으로 볼 수 있다. 이와 더불어 수학교과 중심의 STEAM 수업은 학생들의 수학적 지식 기반의 창의적 사고 능력 발달에도 긍정적인 영향을 미친 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 고등학교에서도 수학교과에 대한 긍정적인 인식 변화와 더불어 창의성 발달을 위해 수학교과 중심의 STEAM 수업이 보다 적극적으로 도입이 될 필요가 있음을 시사한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of mathematics-centered STEAM program on high school girls’ affective characteristics and creative thinking. We developed a 12 hour mathematics-centered STEAM program containing 4 thematic modules that connect mathematical ideas to real-world applications such as scientific disaster management for a research period of 7 months, and the program was applied to 44 high school girls for 3 weeks. One group pretest-posttest design was employed to for this study. A pretest was administrated before the instruction, and the same test was administrated 9 weeks after the pretest According to the results, there were statistically significant differences between pretest and posttest in all of the subcomponents of affective characteristics and creative thinking. It means that the use of the STEAM program is effective in developing high school girls’ positive affective characteristics of mathematics and creative thinking. In addition, the use of the mathematics-centered STEAM program played a positive role in developing creative thinking based on mathematical knowledge. These results show that mathematics-centered STEAM program should be used widely in high school to change students’ negative attitude toward mathematics and develop their creative thinking.
