국문 초록

인구이동의 가속화와 더불어 학교교육 영역에서도 교사의 다문화적 감수성 및 소통능력의 함양이 중요한 과제로 제기되고 있다. 본 논문은 다문화적 교실장면에서 교사가 활용할 수 있는 사진 활용법을 제안하는 데 초점을 맞추었다. 사진은 이미지 해석의 기제를 통해 교사자신의 문화적 준거틀을 반성적으로 검토하고, 학생들의 구체적이고 생생한 삶의 맥락을 존중함으로써 이해지향적태도를 갖도록 돕는다. 문자화된 언어를 넘어서는 해석의 자율성과 주체적 참여 가능성을 확보하고 있는 사진은 포토에세이, 포토인터뷰 등과 같은 구체적인 방법을 통해 다문화교육 영역에서 활용될 수 있다. 그러한 방법을 통해 학생들의 고유한 목소리 속에 내포되어 있는 인식세계를 포착하는 일은 교사의 입장에서는 교육의 출발점을 찾는 일이기도 하다. 교사의 문화적 조응 능력을 함양하는 일이 다문화교육의 중요한 과제라고 할 때 사진은 다양한 차원에서 다문화적 소통의 실행도구로서 중요한 의미를 지닌다.

영문 초록

Demographic trends around the world are changing schools. The circumstances call for an additional task of enhancing the multicultural sensitivity and the communicative competence of teachers in the classroom. This study proposed that photography could be an effective tool for teachers who have to develop culturally responsive attitudes and behaviors which facilitate the students’ learning process in the classroom. Photography offers not only a channel through which subconscious beliefs about “self”, and “others” are revealed, but also the opportunity to enter the previously unfamiliar context of the students. It could help improve the teacher’s cultural responsiveness. Because a photographic image guarantees a participant’s untrammeled interpretations and subjective attitudes in the way of photo essay and photo interview, the teachers were given the opportunity to enhance connections between them through these approaches. In essence, multicultural responsiveness education is an important first step in preparing teachers to become effective instructors of diverse classrooms. There are a variety of ways to implement this education and this study proposed photography to be a successful medium for multicultural education.
