국문 초록

  본 연구는 탐색적(exploratory) 연구 방법으로서 컨셉맵(concept mapping)과 패턴매칭(pattern matching)이, 어떠한 방법론적 함의를 주는가를 탐구하기 위해 의학 교육의 인증 기준개발을 사례로 제시하였다. 본 연구는 최종적으로 어떤 인증기준이 만들어졌는가가 아니라, 모종의 교육프로그램에 대한 인증 기준을 개발하기 위해 온라인 데이터로 컨셉맵과 패턴 매칭이라는 교육 공학적 방법이 어떻게 활용되었는가를 보여주는 데에 초점이 있다.
  일단 연구 수행을 위한 포털 까페를 만들어, 이 까페에서 본 연구에 대해 홍보하고, 피험자의 주의사항을 공지한 후, 데이터 수집을 실시하였다. 총 53명의 피험자들이 ‘쪽지’를 통해 프로그램 인증 기준에 대한 진술을 적어서 송부하였다. 컨셉 시스템(Concept System)이라는 소프트웨어를 사용하여 기본 컨셉 영역을 도출하였다. 일단 피험자들이 쓴 다양한 데이터를 82개의 주요 데이터(표2)로 요약하였다. 그리고 나서, 이 82개의 진술을 피험자들에게 보내 이 내용을 유목화하고 가중치를 두는 작업을 시작하였다. 본 연구자는 피험자들이, 82개의 진술문으로 구성된 데이터를 유목화하고 가중치를 매기기 위해 다음 두 가지 방법 중의 하나를 선택하도록 하였다. 피험자로부터 데이터 수입이 완료된 후, 연구자는 프로그램 인증 기준에 대한 내용들은 다차원척도법(multidimensional scaling)과 계층적 군집분석(hierarchical cluster analysis)을 통해 결과를 분석하였고, 이로부터 인증기준에 대한 다양한 맵(maps)과 패턴(patterns)들이 도출되었다.
  연구 결과는, 방법론적 함의는 다음과 같다. 컨셉맵과 패턴 매칭이 복잡한 이해관계인들(stakeholders)들의 신속한 결정을 유도하는데 효과적이고, 그림으로 나타낼 수 있으므로 관계들간의 상호 비교 및 긴밀 정도를 쉽게 이해할 수 있다. 아울러 이 컨셉맵을 도출하기 위한 연구 방법은 이 과정에 참여한 피험자들간의 과제(의학교육 인증 기준 개발)에 대한 책임감과 결속력을 강화하는 효과도 있었다.
  컨셉맵과 패턴매칭의 방법을 통해 밝혀진 내용은 다음과 같다. 의학교육 프로그램의 자원(resources) 영역과 교육과정(curriculum) 영역 등 크게 두 개의 영역으로 나누어 설명할 수 있으며, 피험자들의 브레인스토밍 결과는(이는 설문조사 결과가 아님)은 프로그램의 철학, 교수의 자질, 프로그램의 환경 등 총 8개의 클러스터로 나눌 수 있었다. 이 중 ‘임상 경험과 실습’(Field experience/Practicum)을 피험자들이 가장 중시하는 것으로 판명되었다. 단, 본 연구는 한 학회의 회원들을 대상으로 임의 표집하였으므로, 샘플링에서 있어서 그 제한점을 인정하지 않을 수 없다. 향후 본 연구를 기반으로, 교육 프로그램에 관한 글로벌 기준을 제시하고 있는 미국교육평가학회(American Evaluation Association)의 조인트 커미티 스탠더드(Joint Committee Standards)등과 비교하여 그 함의(implications)를 연구해 볼 만하다.

영문 초록

  The K Society for Medical Education is beginning an effort to develop a process for accrediting graduate-level training specialization in evaluation in the field of medical evaluation. This study involved the development and mapping of an initial set of accreditation standards. Concept mapping and pattern matching were used to accomplish the first-ever web based facilitated project of this type. The results showed that the standards were divided into two broad areas: problem-related resources and curriculum issues. Eight clusters of statements were obtained. Somewhat surprisingly, the cluster consistently rated most important by participant was the Field experience/Practicum cluster, suggesting that such an experience should be a central feature of the American Evaluation Association (AEA) standards. The study demonstrated the feasibility of using web as a platform for conducting facilitated group concept mapping and pattern matching.
