한국어교육에서 형태초점교수의 연구방법론 적용 양상과 과제

국문 초록

본 연구는 한국어교육 형태초점교수(Focus on Form) 연구의 방법론적 구조와 적용 양상을 비판적으로 분석하는 데 목적이 있다. 2005~2024년 발표된 논문 69편을 대상으로 Ellis(2016)의 다차원 분석틀을 적용하여 명시성, 상호작용성, 반응성, 과업 관련성, 절차 유형, 인지·담화 변인을 중심으로 분석하였다. 그 결 과 국내 연구는 입력 중심 실험 설계에 편중되어 담화 기반 절차 기술과 인지적 통합이 부족한 것으로 나타났다. 특히 혼합형 형태초점교수와 반응적 교사 피드백 중심 절차가 다수를 차지하였다. 본 연구는 형태초점교수를 의미 중심수업 속 형태 주의화 절차로 재정의하고, 인지·담화 통합 설계와 방법론적 투명성 강화를 제언한다.

영문 초록

This study critically examines methodological trends in Focus on Form (FonF) research within Korean language education, applying Ellis’s (2016) multidimensional analytical framework. Sixty-nine studies published between 2005 and 2024 were analyzed and coded across seven variables: timing, explicitness, interactivity, responsiveness, task relevance, procedural type, and cognitive– discoursal dimensions. Findings indicate that Korean FonF research predominantly reflects a procedural orientation, integrating meaning-focused instruction with form-oriented attention. Mixed-type Focus on Form (explicit + implicit) and reactive, interaction-based teacher feedback was the most frequently reported type. However, most studies relied on input-based experimental designs while paying limited attention to underlying cognitive mechanisms (e.g., attention, comparison, working memory) and discoursal phenomena (e.g., FFE, uptake). Methodological rigor— particularly in the use of quality assessment tools and effect-size reporting—was limited, thereby constraining replicability. This study redefines FonF not as a fixed teaching method but as aprocedural framework that facilitates learners’ form-focused attention within communicative contexts. It proposes future directions: (1) explicit operational definitions, (2) standardized multidimensional coding, (3) integration of cognitive and discoursal analyses, and (4) enhanced methodological transparency. This research contributes to positioning FonF as a cognitively and procedurally grounded pedagogical framework within Korean language education.
