자기몰입이 간접외상에 미치는 영향: 사회적 재난에 대한 자극적인 미디어 노출과 안전통제감의 조절된 매개효과

국문 초록

본 연구는 사회적 재난 맥락에서 자기몰입이 간접외상에 미치는 영향을 검증하고, 이 과정에서 자극적인 미디어 노출의 매개효과와 안전통제감의 조절효과를 탐색하였다. 이를 위해 전국의 20대 성인 남녀 352명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하고, PROCESS macro Model 14를 활용하여 조절된 매개효과를 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 자기몰입은 자극적인 미디어 노출과 간접외상 모두에 유의한 정적 영향을 미쳤으며, 자극적인 미디어 노출은 자기몰입과 간접외상 간 관계를 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 자기몰입 성향이 높은 개인은 정서적으로 자극적인 미디어 콘텐츠에 몰입하는 경향이 강해 외상 관련 증상에 대한 취약성이 높아졌다. 또한 안전통제감은이러한 간접 경로를 조절하여, 안전통제감 수준이 높을수록 자극적인 미디어 노출이 간접외상에 미치는 영향은 약화되었다. Johnson–Neyman 분석 결과, 안전통제감이 1.21 이상일 때 자극적인 미디어 노출이 간접외상에미치는 영향은 통계적으로 유의하지 않아, 안전통제감이 인지적 자원으로서 보호적 역할을 하는 것으로 확인되었다. 본 연구는 자기몰입과 간접외상의 관계를 구조적으로 규명하고, 일반 성인을 대상으로 안전통제감의조절효과를 실증적으로 제시하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 나아가 재난 관련 미디어 노출의 부정적 영향을 완충하기 위해 안전통제감을 강화하는 상담·교육적 개입 전략의 필요성을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This study examined the impact of self-absorption on vicarious trauma in the context of social disasters, focusing on the mediating role of provocative media exposure and the moderating role of safety control. A nationwide sample of 352 South Korean adults in their twenties completed a survey, and data were analyzed using PROCESS macro Model 14. Results showed that self-absorption was positively related to both provocative media exposure and vicarious trauma, with media exposure mediating this relationship. Individuals with higher self-absorption were more likely to engage with emotionally charged media content, heightening vulnerability to trauma-related symptoms. Safety control moderated this pathway: the effect of media exposure on vicarious trauma was weaker among participants with higher levels of safety control. Johnson–Neyman analysis further indicated that when safety control exceeded a threshold of 1.21, the influence of media exposure was no longer significant, underscoring its protective role as a cognitive resource. These findings clarify how personality traits and cognitive factors interact with media exposure to shape psychological vulnerability and highlight practical implications for interventions that enhance safety control to buffer the adverse effects of disaster-related media exposure. In practice, counseling and psychoeducation programs may incorporate cognitive reappraisal and self-regulation strategies to strengthen safety control and reduce vulnerability to vicarious trauma.
