국문 초록

본 연구는 국유림 숲 체험 교육활동에 참여한 5세 유아의 생태감수성 발현 양상을 심층적으로 탐색하였다. 질적 사례연구 방법을 적용하여 참여관찰, 유아의 발화 및 행동, 영상자료, 교사 면담 등의 자료를 수집하고 분석하였다. 분석은 Naess의 심층생태학과 정서적·윤리적·실천적 측면에서 구성된 생태감수성 이론 틀을 바탕으로 하였다. 첫째, 유아는 자연물과의 감각적 상호작용을 통해 정서적으로 반응하며 자연과 친밀한 관계를 형성하였다. 둘째, 생명체에 감정을 이입하며 보호하고 배려하는 행동에서 윤리적 생태감수성이 드러났다. 셋째, 자연 보호를 위한 구체적 행동은 유아의 실천적 생태감수성 형성되었음을 보여준다. 이러한 생태감수성은 유아가 생태적 자아를 확장해 가는 과정이라고 할 수 있다. 국유림 숲 체험 교육활동은 생명 존중, 자연과의 공존, 생태적 책임을 내면화하는 교육적 기회를 제공하였다. 본 연구는 유아의 생태감수성을 다차원적으로 이해하고, 유아교육 현장에서 숲 체험 교육활동의 생태교육적 가치를 실증적으로 제시하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

This study investigates the development of ecological sensitivity in five-year-old children participating in nature-based educational activities within a national forest. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through participant observation, children’s verbal and behavioral responses, video recordings, and interviews with teachers. The analysis was guided by Næss's Deep Ecology and a framework of integrated ecological sensitivity, which encompasses emotional, ethical, and practical dimensions. First, the children developed emotional connections with nature through sensory experiences with natural objects. Second, they demonstrated ethical ecological sensitivity by empathizing with living beings and engaging in protective and caring behaviors. Third, they exhibited practical ecological sensitivity through concrete actions that contribute to environmental protection. These forms of ecological sensitivity were understood as part of the children’s process of expanding their environmental self. The national forest experiences provided meaningful opportunities for the children to internalize respect for life, experience harmonious coexistence with nature, and develop a sense of ecological responsibility. This study contributes to a multidimensional understanding of ecological sensitivity in early childhood and offers empirical support for the educational value of forest-based ecological programs in early childhood education.
