Policy Recommendation from Electricity Consumption on Stock Market Performance: An Analysis of South Korea's Service Industry

국문 초록

Using disaggregated quarterly electricity usage data and the Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI), this study investigates the connection between economic development and electricity consumption in South Korea's service sector. Based on a multivariate regression approach, the analysis demonstrates a robust and statistically significant positive correlation between stock market performance and power use. These results indicate that electricity usage not only reflects current economic activity, but also serves as a predictive indicator of capital market trends. The paper argues that sector-specific trends, energy efficiency measures, infrastructure investments, and the broader clean energy transition must be considered for effective economic planning. The study concludes with practical policy recommendations targetted at balancing economic expansion with sustainability.

영문 초록

본 연구는 세분화된 분기별 전력 소비 데이터와 종합주가지수의 상관관계를 분석하여 전력 소비와 한국 서비스 산업에서 경제 성장 간의 관계를 규명하려 하였다. 다변량 회귀 분석을 통해 전력 소비와 한국 종합 주가지수의 관계에서 통계적으로 유의미한 상관관계를 보여 주었다. 이는 전력 사용이 현재의 경제 활동을 반영할 뿐 아니라 주식시장 예측에 있어 유용한 선행 지표로 작용할 수 있음을 나타낸다. 이러한 결과를 토대로, 경제 성장에 대한 정책을 제안하였으며 이는 효과적인 경제 정책 설계를 함에 있어 분야별 구체적 트렌드, 에너지 효율 정책, 그리고 기반시설에 대한 투자등이 고려되어야 한다는 것이다. 이러한 정책들은 실질적인 정책으로 지속가능한 경제 성장 및 확장을 목표로 한다.
