얼굴의 교차: COVID-19 하의 초등교사 수업준비에서 드러난 교육주체 간 관계성

국문 초록

이 연구는 COVID-19 하의 초등교사 수업준비에서 드러난 교육주체 간 관계성을 교육주체들의 얼굴 출현 양상을 중심으로 파악한 자문화기술적 사례연구이다. 교육주체들의 얼굴은 크게 사라진 얼굴, 거울에 비친 얼굴, 낯선 얼굴이라는 세 가지의 문화주제를 중심으로 포착되었다. 사라진 얼굴에서는 수업준비로서 갖춰져 있어야 마땅하나 사라지게 되었던 교육주체들의 얼굴을, 거울에 비친 얼굴에서는 교사들이 수업준비 시 공유하는 자아 이미지로서의 얼굴을, 낯선 얼굴에서는 수업준비 과정에서 낯섦과 불편함을 불러일으키는 교육주체의 얼굴을 조명하였다. COVID-19 하의 초등교사 수업준비에서, 교육주체들의 얼굴은 ‘규율권력’과 ‘생명권력’의 작동에 의해 사라지게 되는데, 교사들은 사라진 얼굴을 되찾기 위해 ‘일상생활의 창조적 실천’을 감행하고 ‘감시에 대항하는 망’을 구축하기도 하였다. 교사들은 ‘(소)타자’를 바라봄으로써 ‘자아 이미지’를 갖고 수업준비와 그것에 대한 선악 및 호오 판단을 하지만, 자아 안으로 포섭되지 않는 영역이 교사주체의 수업준비를 이해하는 데에 중요한 지점이 될 수 있다. 교사 주체는 수업준비 과정에서 ‘타인의 얼굴’을 마주하게 되는데, 이 연구는 수업준비에서 가장 중시되어야 할 일이 동일성으로 포섭되기를 거부하고 스스로를 표현하며 고통을 호소하는 타인의 얼굴을 교사가 어떻게 마주해야 하는가에 대한 것일 수 있음을 제시하였다. 이 연구는 ‘기술’의 도입과 활용을 미래 교육의 열쇠로 봄으로써 교육주체들을 ‘부품’화하는 현 세태를 경계하며, 교육이 결국 얼굴을 지닌 인간의 일임을 도외시해서는 안 된다는 것을, 더 나은 교육을 위하여 교육주체들의 얼굴에 관심을 가질 필요가 있음을 주장하였다. This autoethnographic case study aims to grasp the relationship between educational subjects revealed in the preparation of elementary school teachers amid the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on the appearance of the faces of educational subjects. The faces of educational subjects centered on three cultural themes: the “disappeared face,” the “face reflected in the mirror,” and the “unfamiliar face.” In the “disappeared face,” the faces of educational subjects who should have been prepared for class but have disappeared are mentioned. The “face reflected in the mirror” deals with the face as a self-image that teachers share when preparing for class. The “unfamiliar face” focuses on the face of the educational subject that causes unfamiliarity and discomfort during class preparation. In the class preparation among elementary school teachers during the COVID-19 pandemic, the faces of educational subjects disappear through the operation of “disciplinary power” and “biopower.” Meanwhile, teachers build a network against surveillance through “creative practice in everyday life” to retrieve the disappeared faces. Teachers acquire “self-image” by looking at “others” to determine class preparation and whether it is good or bad and liked or disliked, but the area that is not subsumed into the self could be a key point to understanding the teacher's preparation for class. Teacher subjects face “the faces of others” during class preparation, and this study suggests that the priority in class preparation may be how teachers should face the faces of others who refuse to be embraced by identity, express themselves, and communicate about pain. This study is wary of the state of turning educational subjects into “parts” by viewing the introduction and use of “technology” as the key to future education, and argues that since education ultimately concerns human beings with faces, it is necessary to consider the faces of educational subjects for a better educational practice.
