생태유아교육을 운영하는 사립유치원 원장의 생애사 연구: 최 원장 이야기

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 사립유치원 원장의 생애사 관점에서 생태유아교육으로의 전환 경험이 갖는 의미는 무엇인지를 살펴보는 것이다. 연구목적에 비추어 20년 이상 생태유아교육을 현장에서 운영한 사립유치원의 최 원장을 연구참여자로 목적표집하였다. 심층면담을 실시하여 자료를 수집했으며, 수집한 자료를 Mandelbaum의 생애사 틀로 분석했다. 분석 결과, 최 원장은 삶의 영역에서 대학과 직장에서의 신뢰와 인정을 발판 삼아 교사 정체성을 만들었으며, 기존 교육방식에서의 문제를 해결할 방안으로 생태유아교육을 시도하면서 전환점을 맞이하게 된다. 생태유아교육자로서의 교사 성장 지원, 가정과 연계한 생태유아교육, 교사와의 수평적인 관계 구축 등 생태유아교육으로 전환하고 적응하는 데에 노력을 기울였다. 생태유아교육에서의 자연 순리에 따른 기다림 미학이 최 원장의 삶에도 반영되어 최 원장이 내려놓는 삶을 영위할 수 있게 되었다. 이러한 결과는 유아교육기관장이 생태유아교육을 시작하기 위해 물리적․인적 환경을 바꿔야 하며 이 변화는 기관장의 기관 운영 방식과 삶의 변화로 이어짐을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This study examines the experience of transitioning to eco-early childhood education from the life history perspective of a private kindergarten principal. Research participants were sampled to suit the purpose of this study, and principal Choi, who has operated eco-early childhood education in the field for more than 20 years, was selected. Data were collected through three in-depth and two follow-up interviews and analyzed using Mandelbaum's framework. As a result, Principal Choi has created her identity as a teacher based on trust and recognition at college and workplace and reached a turning point in encountering eco-early childhood education as a solution to educational problems. Efforts were made to transition and adapt to ecological early childhood education, including supporting the growth of teachers as ecological early childhood educators, ecological early childhood education linked to families, and establishing horizontal relationships with teachers. She also learned the aesthetics of waiting according to the natural order from eco-early childhood education theories. These results suggest that the head of an early childhood education institution must change the physical and human resources to start eco-early childhood education and that there is a mutually cyclical relationship in which the life of an educator also changes in the process of these changes.
