한국 스테디셀러 그림책의 특성

국문 초록

그림책의 장르적 특성 중 하나는 성인과 아동 둘을 모두 독자로 하고 있다는 것이다. 성인과 아동이 동시에 선호하는 스테디셀러 그림책의 특징은 그림책의 이러한 장르적 특성을 증거하고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 이러한 스테디셀러 그림책의 특성을 분석하여 한국의 그림책 독자의 선호를 탐색하는 것이다. 분석 대상은 매출액 기준 상위 5개의 온라인 서점에서 제공하는 ‘유아, 어린이’ 카테고리의 2013 베스트셀러 목록에서 출판된 지 5년이 초과된 총 98종(100권)의 그림책이었으며 출판국가와 출판년도, 작가, 장르, 주제 및 그림의 표현양식을 분석하였다. 그 결과 스테디셀러 그림책 중에서 한국도서와 외국도서의 비율은 비슷했으나 국가별로는 한국 그림책이 가장 많았다. 출판년도는 2000년대에 출판된 그림책이 가장 많았으나, 절반에 가까운 그림책들은 2000년 이전에 출판된 그림책들로 스테디셀러 그림책의 43%가 15년 이상 된 책들이었다. 그림책의 작가는 다양했지만 우리나라의 경우 이억배 작가의 그림책이 5권으로 가장 많았고, 전체적으로는 영국의 앤서니 브라운 작가의 그림책이 7권으로 가장 많았다. 장르는 픽션이 82.7%로 많은 부분을 차지하였으며 주제는 친구·놀이가 가장 많이 나타났다. 그림의 표현 양식은 작가적 표현이 41권(41.6%), 만화적 표현이 36권(36.7%)으로 대부분을 차지하였다.

영문 초록

One of the generic characteristics of a picture book is its dual audience, that is adults as well as children. This study analyzed the features of steady seller picture books to find out picture book preferences of the dual audience. For this study, a hundred picture book titles which have been on the best seller list in the children’s book category for over 5 years on 5 online book stores were selected and classified according to the nation and the year of publication, author, genre, theme, and artistic style. The results showed that among the steady seller titles, Korean ones are slightly less than those of all the other countries combined, whereas, by country, Korea has much more titles than any other single country. The number of the steady seller titles which were published in 2000 is the highest and nearly half of those(43%) were published at least 15 years ago. Based on the steady seller list, the most popular Korean author is Eok Bae Lee while the foreign counterpart is Anthony Brown in the United Kingdom. According to the genre classification, fiction comprised a large proportion(82.7%) among the steady seller list. The theme dealing with friends and play is the most popular among the list. In the respect of artistic style, the personal and cartoons were the most dominant.
