일본 1989년 개정 유치원 교육요령에 나타난 ‘유치원 교육의 기본’의 함의

국문 초록

본고의 목적은 일본 국가수준 유치원 교육과정 지침인 유치원 교육요령의 1989년 개정판에서 새롭게 등장한 ‘유치원 교육의 기본’의 도입 배경과 기본적 관점을 고찰하는 것이다. 이를 위해 1989년 문부성에서 간행한 유치원 교육요령과 지도서, 유아교육 전문가들에 의해 저술된 1989년 개정 관련 해설서들, 그리고 관련 연구물들을 검토하였다. 검토 결과, 1989년 개정의 배경에는 가정, 지역사회 그리고 자연환경 등의 전반적 사회 환경의 변화에 따른 유아의 불균형한 발달에 대한 위기의식과 교과교육중심의 유치원 운영에 대한 문제의식이 있었음을 알 수 있었다. 또한, 유아기는 인간형성의 기초를 형성하는 시기로서 유치원 교육은 아이들의 ‘인간으로서의 발달’을 지원하는 역할을 담당해야 한다는 인식이 개정의 토대가 되었음을 알 수 있었다. 유치원 교육의 기본으로서는 환경을 통한 교육, 유아의 주체적 생활의 전개, 놀이를 통한 총합적 지도, 개별 발달의 존중의 원칙이 정립되었음을 밝혔다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to examine the backdrop and the basic viewpoints of “Basic Ideals of Kindergarten Education,” which made its first appearance from the Japanese Course of study for Kindergarten Revised Edition, 1989. The study reviewed the Course of study for Kindergarten Revised Edition, 1989; teacher guidebooks published by the Ministry of Education or by early childhood education experts; and articles considering the Revised Edition, 1989. This study has shown a sense of crisis about the unbalanced development of children due to changes in their overall social environment, and this awareness of subject-centered curriculum in kindergarten has provided the backdrop for the 1989 revision. Moreover, the ideas that early childhood is when the basis of human formation occursand that the role of kindergarten is to support this human formation are the foundation of the revision. In addition, the revision has shown that four principles (education through environment, development of a child‘s subjective life, comprehensive education through play, and respect for individual development) were established as the Basic Ideals of Kindergarten Education.
