국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 질적 메타분석을 통해 말을 더듬는 사람들의 삶의 경험을 종합하고 비교·분석함으로써 구체적인 말더듬 경험과 의미를 통합적으로 이해하고자 하였다. 본 연구는 2000년부터 2024년까지의 말더듬 당사자의 삶의 경험을 다룬 국내·외 질적 연구물 22편을 대상으로 질적 메타분석을 실시하였다. 질적 메타분석의 7단계에 따라 대상 질적 연구물에 제시된 주제 및 해석과 참여자들의 발화를 해체하고 다시 합성함으로써 새로운 범주를 찾고 범주에 따라 재배치하며 재해석하는 과정을 통해 개념, 하위범주, 상위범주를 도출하였다. 이러한 과정을 거쳐 ‘유창하지 않은 길 위의 삶’, ‘말더듬 너머의 여정’, ‘나를 찾아가는 여정’, ‘말더듬의 길에서 마주한 시선의 갈림길’이라는 4가지 상위주제로 종합하였다. 본 연구는 말을 더듬는 사람들의 생애 전반에 걸친 경험을 통해 말더듬이 말하기의 어려움을 넘어 개인적, 사회적 맥락과 긴밀히 연결된 문제임을 살폈으며, 이에 따라 말더듬치료는 개인의 삶을 통합적으로 이해하고 지원하는 방향으로 확장되어야 함을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to understand the overall experiences and meanings of stuttering by synthesizing, comparing, and analyzing the lived experiences of people who stutter through a qualitative meta-analysis. This study conducted a qualitative meta-analysis of 22 domestic and international qualitative studies published between 2000 and 2024 that captured the vivid lived experiences of people who stutter. Following the seven steps of qualitative meta-analysis, the study deconstructed and re-synthesized the themes, interpretations, and participants’ narratives presented in the selected studies to identify new categories, reorganize them, and reinterpret the data. Through this process, concepts, subcategories, and overarching categories were derived. The findings were integrated into four main themes: “Life on the Disfluent Path,” “The Journey Beyond Fluency,” “The Journey Toward the Self,” and “The Crossroads of Perception on the Path of Stuttering.” This study explored how stuttering is not merely a difficulty in speaking but is intricately connected to personal and social contexts across the life span. Based on these findings, the study argues that speech-language therapy should be expanded to holistically understand and support the lives of people who stutter.
