국문 초록

본 논문은 초등학생의 심층동기와 내적 비전에 끼치는 시각 이미지의 역할과 시각문화미술교육의 가치에 대해 논의한다. 구체적인 논의를 위해 우선 본 연구에 사용된 본질주의적 질적 연구 방법을 개념화한다. 그리고 이 연구 방법을 적용한 일예로서 다음의 두 가지를 구체적으로 보여주는 한 초등학교 5학년의 사례를 소개한다. 첫째, 연구 대상 학생이 좋아하는 대중문화 시각 이미지가 자신에게 끼친 영향을 학생이 속한 다양한 맥락성 속에서 소개한다. 둘째, 이러한 다양한 맥락성에 근거해서 이 학생의 인식과 미술 작품에 엿보이는 도덕적인 판단력 그리고 장래 희망 선정과 연관된 비평적 의식을 살펴본다. 특히 이 비평의식을 심층동기와 내적 비전과 연관 지어 논의한다. 따라서 이 학생의 자아 정체성, 자아의식, 그리고 비평적 사고 능력 분석에 초점을 둔다. 시각문화미술교육 이론을 바탕으로 본 연구를 위해 제작 · 적용된 미술 프로그램 자체에 초점을 두는 것이 아니다. 결국 이러한 분석을 통해 본 연구는 시각 이미지의 역할에 대한 독자들의 이해, 시각문화미술교육의 필요성과 방향 제시, 그리고 시각문화미술교육이 학습자들의 내면적 인식에 끼치는 영향력을 심도 있게 탐구하는 질적 연구의 필요성을 주장한다.

영문 초록

The intension of this paper is to explore the role of popular visual images in students deep motivation and inner vision, and the value of visual culture art education in enhancing this role. To achieve this purpose, a qualitative case study using an essentialist approach is conceptualized. Then, as an example of applying this research method, a fifth grade student is sketched in the portrait of the student. In particular, this case study aims to explicate two things. First, under various contexts in which the student has been engaged, it reveals the impact of the student s favorite popular visual images on the student. Second, considering the various contexts, this portrait shows how the student develops his deep motivation and inner vision that constructs his critical consciousness as a basis of his moral judgment and desire. This paper is concerned with obtaining analytical results of the student s self identity, self consciousness, and thinking ability informed by critical theory. However, it does not focus on the art program itself, designed and implemented for this research and oriented by visual culture art education theory. Ultimately, through investigation, this study suggests that research in visual culture art education needs to be responsive to students and qualitative in nature, in search of a more comprehensive understanding of students inner mind and consciousness.
