중학생이 지각하는 미래지향시간관과 학업동기 및 노력, 학업성취간의 구조적 관계

국문 초록

학업영역에서 나타나는 미래지향시간관의 동기적 효과에 불구하고 이와 관련한 동기 과정을 설명하려는 노력은 크게 이루어지지 않았다. 이에, 이 연구에서는 학기 초에 측정한 중학생의 미래지향시간관이 수학, 영어에 대한 자기효능감과 성취목표를 어떻게 예측하는지, 또한 상기의 인지적 구인이 학기 중반의 노력과 학기 말의 학업성취를 어떻게 예측하는지 살펴보았다. 여자중학교 1, 2, 3학년에 재학중인 648명의 학생들의 응답을 구조방정식 모형을 통해 분석한 결과, 학생들이 지각하는 미래지향시간관은 자기효능감과 숙달목표를 정적으로 예측하였고 수행접근 및 회피목표는 부적으로 예측하였으며 학기 중반의 노력을 정적으로 예측하였다. 예상과는 달리 학업성취에 대한 미래지향시간과의 직접적 예측력은 나타나지 않았지만 앞서의 동기구인을 거쳐 노력을 예측하고, 이는 다시 학업성취로 이어지는 간접경로를 확인할 수 있었다. 이를 통해 미래지향시간관과 관련한 동기과정에 대한 논의를 확장시키고자 하였다.

영문 초록

Despite the positive role of future time perspective on academic outcomes, no effort has been made to explain its motivational processes. Thus, this study examined how future time perspective assessed at the beginning of the semester predicts self-efficacy and achievement goals for Math and English in middle school students. This study also examined how the aforementioned cognitive constructs predict effort during semester and academic achievement at the end of the semester. When we analyzed a structural equation model using responses of 648 students attending at girls’ junior high school, the perceived future time perspective positively predicted self-efficacy and mastery goals, and negatively predicted performance-approach and -avoidance goals. It also positively predicted effort at mid-semester. Unexpectedly, no significant path was appeared with academic achievement and future time perspective, but an indirect path was identified linking them via self-efficacy, mastery goals and effort. This study expanded the discussion on the motivational processes related to future time perspective.
