영문 초록

The erythrocyte and plasma superoxide dismutase(SOD-1) activities were measured in 9 patients with Alzheimer’ s disease(AD) and 13 controls without cognitive dysfunction. All patients met the criteria by NINCDS-ADRDA’ S ‘probable AD’ . The results obtained were as follows 1) SOD-1 activity was related neither to sex nor to age in controls. 2) The plasma SOD-1 activity was significantly higher in AD patients than in controls. These findings suggest that increased SOD-1 activities may reflect overexpression of normal protein via point mutation, gene duplication or gene amplification on chromosome 21, or a compensatory mechanism that protect from noxious oxygen free radicals excessively produced by certain AD pathophysiology. 3) There was no correlation between plasma SOD-1 activity and MMSE-K score in AD patients.
