국문 초록

Alcohol and nicotine use frequently co-occur and are closely linked through shared genetic vulnerabilities, neurobiological mechanisms, and psychosocial contexts. However, these behaviors also interact in ways that hinder cessation efforts, with smoking increasing the risk of relapse among individuals attempting alcohol abstinence, and alcohol use undermining smoking cessation. Given this bidirectional interference, it is important to address both behaviors in clinical interventions. While the recommended principle is simultaneous cessation, this approach can be difficult to implement in practice for both patients and clinicians. This review summarizes the neurobiological and psychosocial foundations of alcohol and nicotine dual dependence and proposes practical considerations for treatment prioritization and pharmacological strategies.
