호텔 전공 대학생의 호텔 현장 실습 중 우연 학습 경험을 통한 진로 선택 과정에 관한 근거 이론 연구

국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 호텔 전공 대학생의 호텔 현장 실습 중 우연 학습 경험을 통한 진로 선택 과정을 설명할 수 있는 실체적 이론을 개발하는 것이다. 연구 목적을 달성하기 위하여 연구 문제는 ‘호텔 전공 대학생들의 호텔 현장 실습 중 우연 학습 경험을 통한 진로 선택 과정을 설명할 수 있는 실체적 이론은 무엇인가?’ 이다. 자료 수집은 6개월 이상 호텔 현장 실습 경험이 있는 호텔 전공 대학생 총 16명을 대상으로 심층 인터뷰를 진행하였다. 자료 분석은 개방 코딩, 축 코딩, 선택 코딩 절차에 따라 진행하였다. 분석 결과로 첫째, 개방 코딩 단계에서 개념 107개, 하위 범주 29개, 범주 5개가 도출되었다. 둘째, 축 코딩 단계에서 인과적 조건, 맥락적 조건, 중심 현상, 중재적 조건, 작용/상호작용. 결과를 통해서 우연 학습 경험의 코딩 패러다임 모형이 생성되었다. 셋째, 선택 코딩 단계에서 핵심 범주가 ‘우연 학습 경험의 반복적 자기 주도 실천과 내면화를 통한 진로 선택의 구체화 과정’으로 구성되었으며 최종적으로 핵심 범주와 다른 범주들과 통합 과정을 통해 실체적 이론을 도출하였다. 학문적 기여도는 호텔 현장 실습 경험에서 도출한 실체적 이론을 통해 개인의 진로 선택을 행동과 심리 통합적 관점에서 설명하였다. 또한 우연 학습의 주체성⋅학습 영역 및 환경 조건의 개념을 생애사적·실천 중심 맥락으로 확장하였다. 실무적 시사점은 호텔 실습 현장에서 학습 촉진 및 진로 탐색을 유도하는 우연 학습 경험의 중요성과 우연 학습 경험을 통한 암묵지 습득의 중요성을 제시하였다. 또한 호텔의 수평적이고 차별없는 조직 문화의 중요성과 우연 학습 중심 진로교육의 필요성을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This study aims to develop a substantive theory explaining hotel management students’ career choice process through happenstance learning during hotel internships. The central research question is: ‘What substantive theory can explain how hotel management students make career choices through happenstance learning during hotel internships?’ In-depth interviews were conducted with 16 hotel management students who had completed at least six months of internship experience. Data were analyzed through open, axial, and selective coding. The results are as follows: First, 107 concepts, 29 sub-categories, and 5 categories were identified in open coding. Second, axial coding generated a paradigm model consisting of causal conditions, contextual conditions, central phenomena, intervening conditions, action/interactions, and consequences. Third, selective coding revealed the core category, ‘the process of defining career choice through repeated self-directed practice and internalization of happenstance learning,’ from which a substantive theory was developed through category integration. Academically, this theory explains career choice from behavioral and psychological perspectives, extending the concepts of agency and environment in happenstance learning to life-history and practice-based contexts. Practically, the findings highlight the need to foster happenstance learning and tacit knowledge acquisition in hotel internships while strengthening horizontal workplace cultures and career education grounded in experiential learning.
