국문 초록

조선 후기는 과시(科詩) 창작이 최고조에 달했던 시대였다. 18세기 중엽에 편찬된 과시 선집 『근예준선(近藝雋選)』은 이 시기 과시 양식의 변화를 관찰할 수 있는 중요한 사례를 제공해준다. 본고에서는 이용휴(李用休)가 서문에서 언급한 ‘시취기세(詩取奇勢)’라는 평어에 주목하여, 『근예준선』에 수록된 과시들을 통해 18세기 과시의 새로운 변화 양상을 분석하였다. 『근예준선』의 과시는 두 가지 주요 경로를 통해 새로운 변화를 모색했다. 첫째, 제재(題材)의 확장이다. 『근예준선』의 과시들은 유가 경전 중심의 전통에서 벗어나 조선의 고유한 역사 전고(典故)나 도교 설화 등을 적극적으로 활용하였다. 둘째, 기교(技巧)의 혁신이다. 『근예준선』의 창작자들은 다방면으로 과시 창작의 기교를 연마하였다. 예를 들어 부(賦)의 기법을 과시에 이용하거나, 전고를 새롭게 해석하는 경향이있었다. 이러한 변화를 모색한 이유로는 다음 두 가지를 들 수 있다. 내적으로는 문학의 발전 과정에서 필연적인 요구였으며, 외적으로는 치열한 과거 시험에서 두각을 드러내기 위한 현실적인 응시 전략이기도 했다.

영문 초록

The late Joseon Dynasty represents the zenith of creative activity for gwasi (科詩, Examination Poetry). The mid-18th-century anthology Geunye Junseon (《近藝雋選》) offers a prime example for observing the stylistic transformations of gwasi during this era. This paper focuses on the critical phrase “Seeking Novelty in Poetry” (詩取奇勢) from the preface by Yi Yong-hyu (李用休) and analyzes the new developments in 18th-century gwasi as demonstrated by the works compiled in the anthology.The gwasi in Geunye Junseon pursued innovation through two primary paths. The first is the expansion of subject matter. Departing from the tradition centered on Confucian classics, the poets of Geunye Junseon actively incorporated uniquely Korean historical allusions and Daoist legends. The second is the innovation of creative techniques in gwasi. Its creators refined their poetic techniques in various ways; for instance, they often adapted techniques from the fu (賦) for use in gwasi or reinterpreted allusions by inverting their conventional meanings.These changes arose from two primary motivations. Internally, they were an inevitable response to the need for literary evolution. Externally, they served as a pragmatic strategy for examination candidates to distinguish themselves in the highly competitive civil service examinations.
