텃밭활동의 생태적 ‘전환’: 만 3세 유아와 생태전환적 텃밭활동 만들기

국문 초록

이 연구는 기후 위기 시대에 교육의 생태적 전환을 모색하며, 생태전환교육의 일환으로 텃밭활동을 실행하며 그 과정에서 일어나는 교육활동의 전환과 그것의 의미를 탐구하였다. 1년간의 꾸준한 텃밭활동을 통해 ‘전환’이 구체적으로 어떻게 일어나는지를 드러내려고 했으며 텃밭활동 경험이 나와 유아의 삶에 주는 의미를 이해하고자 했다. 만 3세 유아 5명과 2022년 3월부터 이듬해 3월까지 1년간 텃밭활동을 하며 교육과정일지, 수업자료, 활동사진, 연구일지 등의 자료를 수집했으며, 자료를 반복적으로 읽으며 텃밭활동의 전환이 일어난 지점을 중심으로 자료를 구성하였다. 연구 결과 텃밭활동의 생태적 전환과정을 ‘기계적 물주기에서 응답하는 물주기로’, ‘관리된 텃밭에서 트러블과 함께하는(staying with the trouble) 텃밭으로’, ‘단절에서 순환으로’와 같이 주제화하였다. 이 연구는 교사가 기후 재난 시대에 적절한 텃밭활동에 대해 고민하며 이에 대한 답을 찾아가는 실행과정을 보여준다는 점에서 의미를 찾을 수 있으며, 교육의 생태적 전환을 추구하는 현장의 교사들에게 유아기 적절한 텃밭활동에 대한 논의를 제공할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

This study explores the ecological transition of education in the era of climate crisis by implementing ecological transition practices through gardening, focusing on the transformations that occurred in educational activities and their meanings. With a critical perspective on traditional gardening practices, this research aimed to pursue an ecological transition in early childhood education. Over the course of one year, from March 2022 to March 2023, five 3-year-old children participated in gardening activities on an almost daily basis gardening activities. Data were collected through curriculum journals, lesson materials, activity photographs, and research journals. Through repeated readings of the collected materials, the study identified key moments of transformation in gardening practices. The results of the study were categorized into themes such as: “From mechanical watering to responsive watering,” “From a managed garden to staying with the trouble,” and “From disconnection to circulation.” This research is meaningful in that it illustrates how a teacher, in the era of climate crisis, raises questions about appropriate gardening practices and seeks answers through practice. It also offers insights for early childhood educators seeking to engage in ecologically-oriented gardening practices as part of broader educational transformation.
