선택 활동 기반의 초등학교 2학년 수업 분석: 덧셈과 뺄셈 단원을 중심으로

국문 초록

수학 학습 활동에서 학생의 선택 및 주도성을 강조하는 2022 개정 수학과 교육과정에 따라 초등 1~2학년군 수학 교과서에 선택 활동이 새로 도입되었다. 그러나 이러한 선택 활동 기반의 수업이 의도대로 실행되는 것은 쉽지 않다. 이에 본 연구에서는 초등학교 2학년 교과서의 덧셈과 뺄셈 단원에서 선택 활동이 포함된 6차시 분량을 대상으로 선택 활동 기반의 수학 수업을 설계하고 실행하였다. 수업은 선택 활동 안내하기, 개별 탐구하기, 다양한 방법 논의하기, 탐구한 방법 적용하기의 흐름대로 구현되었다. 각 수업 단계별로 특징적인 구현 양상을 분석하였으며 특히 학생들의 개별 선택 활동을 기반으로 계산 도구를 효과적으로 사용하는 방법, 교과서에 제시된 아이디어를 응용한 전략, 공통적인 계산 원리에 대해 전체 논의한 과정을 분석하였다. 또한, 학생들의 선택에 있어서 변화의 양상도 분석하였는데, 많은 학생들이 2가지 이상의 활동을 선택하고 후반 차시로 갈수록 선택한 계산 방법이나 도구가 다양해지는 경향이 있었다. 이를 토대로 본 논문은 선택 활동 기반 초등학교 수학 수업을 설계하고 실행하는 것에 관한 시사점을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

In line with the 2022 revised mathematics curriculum, which emphasizes student choice and agency in learning, “choice activities” have been newly introduced in lower elementary (Grades 1-2) mathematics textbooks. However, implementing instruction that fully reflects the intent of these activities remains challenging. This study designed and implemented six lessons incorporating choice activities within the addition and subtraction unit of a second-grade mathematics textbook. Each lesson followed a sequence of presenting the problem, introducing choice-based activities, facilitating individual exploration, discussing diverse strategies, and applying explored strategies. The study analyzed the characteristics of instruction at each phase, focusing particularly on how students independently selected and utilized calculation tools, adapted textbook strategies, and engaged in shared discussions about computational principles. In addition, it examined changes over time in students’ selections. A notable finding was that many students chose more than two activities and increasingly diversified their selection of tools and strategies in later lessons. Based on these findings, the study discusses pedagogical implications for the design and implementation of elementary mathematics instruction grounded in choice-based activities.
