국문 초록

본 연구는 내러티브 탐구를 통해 보이는 세상을 살다가 시각장애인이 된 세 명의 시각장애인의전환적 삶의 체험을 이해하고자 하였다. 이에 연구자와 연구참여자는 2024년 3월부터 2025년 1월까지 시각장애라는 감각적 한계로 인한 삶의 어려움과 고통, 그리고 이를 넘어선 전환적 체험에 관해이야기하고 탐구하였다. 연구 결과는 두 가지로 제시되었다. 첫째, 참여자들이 살아온 여정을 그들만의 내러티브로 정리하였다. 이들의 내러티브는 시각장애인들이 삶의 고난을 딛고 끊임없이 변화하고 성장하는 여정을 잘 보여준다. 둘째, 그들이 장애로 인해 마주해야 했던 경험을 ‘전환적 체험’으로 분석하여, 그 의미를 ‘잃다’, ‘찾다’, ‘반복하다’, ‘마주하다’라는 네 가지 주제로 설명하였다. 나아가 연구참여자들이 전환적 삶의 체험 속에서 어려움을 극복하며 살아갈 수 있었던 동력은 ‘돕는 사람들', ‘가족’, ‘성찰’에서 비롯됨을 논의하였다. 결론적으로, 세 참여자는 ‘장애’라는 한계를 직면하면서도 강한 의지로 이를 극복하려했으며, 고통을 긍정적인 에너지로 ‘변환’하는 과정을 통해 삶을새롭게 재구성하였다. 내러티브 탐구 과정은 이들에게 새로운 삶의 의미와 가치를 부여하였다.

영문 초록

This study sought to understand the transformative life experiences of three individuals who became visually impaired after previously perceiving the world through sight, using a narrative inquiry approach. From March 2024 to January 2025, the researcher and participants engaged in discussions exploring the difficulties and pains caused by the sensory limitations of visual impairment, as well as the transformative experiences that transcended these challenges. The findings are summarized into two main themes. First, each participant’s life journey was organized into their unique narrative, which vividly depicts the ongoing process of overcoming hardship and continuous growth among people with visual impairments. Second, the experiences faced due to disability were analyzed as ‘transformative experiences’, categorized under four themes: ‘Losing’, ‘Finding’, ‘Repeating’, and ‘Confronting’. Furthermore, the study discusses how the motivation to overcome hardships and lead a transformative life was rooted in ‘supportive people’, ‘family’,and ‘self-reflection’. In conclusion, despite facing the limitations imposed by disability, the three participants endeavored to overcome their struggles with strong determination, reconstructing their lives through the process of transforming pain into positive energy. The narrative inquiry process provided them with new meaning and value in life.
