국문 초록

이 연구는 2005년부터 2024년까지 5개 주요 국가(중국, 일본, 미국, 대만, 홍콩)의 방한 인바운드 관광 수요데이터를 활용하여 Bai-Perron 다중 구조변화 검정을 적용함으로써 단순 수요 감소가 아닌 시계열 추세가 통계적으로 유의미하게 변화한 구조변화 시점을 식별하고 외생적 관광 위기를 유형화하는 데 목적이 있다. 분석 결과, 국가별로 서로 다른 시점에서 구조변화가 발생하였으며 해당 시점들은 관광 위기와 사후적 연계를 통해 경제, 안보, 국가 분쟁, 질병유형으로 구분되었다. 또한 관광 위기 유형에 따라 관광수요에 유의한 구조적 변화가 나타난 국가가 상이하였으며 동일한 위기에도 특정 국가는 수요 감소를, 다른 국가는 수요 증가를 보이는 등 반응의 유의성과 방향성에서도 차이가 발생함을 발견하였다. 이처럼 관광 위기의 국가별 관광 수요에 대한 차별적 영향에도 불구하고 COVID-19 팬데믹의 경우 모든 국가 모형에서 공통적으로 구조변화를 초래한 것으로 나타났다. 이 연구는 관광수요 충격의 탐지 및 대응 전략 수립에 있어 구조변화 검정의 적용 가능성을 제시하였으며 향후 국가별 관광시장 특성과 위기 유형에 따른 회복탄력성 평가, 차별적 대응 전략 수립을 위한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study applies the Bai-Perron multiple breakpoint test to Korea’s inbound tourism demand data from five major countries (China, Japan, the United States, Taiwan, and Hong Kong) over the period from 2005 to 2024. The objective is to identify statistically significant structural breaks in the time series and to develop a typology of external tourism crises. The analysis reveals that structural breaks occurred at different times across countries, and these points were retrospectively linked to crises of various types, including economic, security-related, geopolitical conflict, and disease outbreaks. Moreover, the countries demonstrated divergent responses depending on the crisis type: while some experienced a decline in inbound tourism demand, others recorded increases, even in response to the same event, indicating heterogeneity in both the significance and direction of impacts. Despite these variations, the COVID-19 pandemic induced structural breaks in all five country-specific models. This study highlights the applicability of structural break tests for detecting external shocks in tourism demand and offers foundational insights for evaluating tourism resilience and designing differentiated crisis response strategies.
