전공자율선택제와 융합교양교육 - 학문적 기반 형성을 위한 교육적 접근

국문 초록

전공자율선택제는 학생들이 다양한 학문을 탐색하고 전공을 선택하는 데 자유를 부여함으로써 학문간 경계를 넘나드는 융합 인재 양성을 목표로 한다. 이러한 제도의 확대는 대학 교육의 혁신에 대한시대적 요구를 반영하며, 특히 1학년 교육과정에서 융합교양교육의 중요성을 부각시키고 있다. 1학년은학문적 이해가 형성되기 시작하는 시기로 충분한 학문적 기반 없이 융합교육에 참여하게 될 경우융합의 실천에 필요한 지적 활동과 상호작용이 제한될 수 있다. 따라서 융합교육이 효과적으로 이루어지기 위해서는 학문적 기반의 형성을 위한 교육적 접근에 대한 탐색이 중요하다. 이 연구는 융합교양교육에서 학문적 기반 형성의 중요성에 주목하고, 이를 위한 교육적 접근을세 가지 쟁점을 중심으로 탐색하였다. 첫째, 분과학문에 대한 기초적 이해의 수준으로 학문별 핵심개념과 방법에 대한 감각을 체득할 수 있는 교육이 중요하다. 둘째, 학문 분야에 따라 융합의 실천에요구되는 학문적 기반의 수준과 성격이 다를 수 있으므로 학문 분야의 특성을 고려한 맞춤형 지원이필요하다. 셋째, 내용 중심의 학문적 기반에 더하여 메타학문적 습관과 학문적 겸손을 포함한 태도중심의 학문적 기반 형성을 통해 학문 간 경계를 성찰적으로 넘나드는 사고 습관과 태도를 함양해야한다. 이 연구를 통해 융합교양교육 연구에서 1학년 학생들의 학문적 성장과 융합적 사고의 기초를 마련하는 데 필요한 학문적 기반의 형성에 대한 논의를 활성화하고, 융합 인재 양성을 위한 대학 교육과정의로드맵을 재구성하는 데 필요한 이론적·실천적 기초를 제공할 수 있기를 기대한다.

영문 초록

The Autonomous Major Selection System provides students the opportunity to explore diverse academic disciplines before declaring a major, with the aim of cultivating interdisciplinary understanding of traversing disciplinary boundaries. The expansion of this system reflects a growing demand for innovation in higher education, underscoring the significance of interdisciplinary general education in the first-year curriculum. The first year of university is a formative period in which students begin to develop disciplinary understanding; without a sufficient disciplinary grounding, participation in interdisciplinary education may hinder the intellectual engagement and interaction essential for meaningful integration. Thus, identifying effective pedagogical approaches to fostering disciplinary grounding is crucial for the successful implementation of interdisciplinary general education. This study examines the significance of disciplinary grounding within interdisciplinary general education and explores educational approaches along three key dimensions: (1) fostering a adequacy of interdisciplinary breath by enabling students to grasp core concepts and methods specific to each disciplinary; (2) providing tailored support that reflects differences in the level and nature of disciplinary grounding required across fields; and (3) extending beyond content-based grounding to foster meta-disciplinary understanding and disciplinary humility, thereby equipping students to critically reflect on and reconcile differences across disciplines. By articulating these dimensions, this study seeks to advance scholarly discussion on disciplinary grounding as a foundation for first-year students’ academic growth and interdisciplinary understanding. It also aims to offer a theoretical and practical insights for reconfiguring the curricular roadmap of higher education to better support the cultivation of interdisciplinary talent.
