국문 초록

이 논문은 종교개혁 운동의 핵심적 사상이 사회 변화에 미친 영향을 기독교 사회윤리 관점에서 고찰한 것이다. 연구지향성은 방론적으로는 종교개혁 전공의 교회사 학자들의 연구업적을 참조하여 기독교 사상사적-문화신학적 관점에서 논한 조직신학 논문이다. 이 논문이 지향하는 주된 관심은 종교개혁자 루터와 칼빈 그리고 급진적 개혁자들의 신학사상을 ‘일상의 성화’ 관점과 ‘정치와 경제 권력의 공공성’이라는 주제를 중심으로 고찰한다. 그리하여 위대한 종교개혁 운동을 지난날 16세기 유럽 사회에서의 기독교 내 개혁운동에 제약하지 않고, 21세기 인류가 당면한 위기를 극복하는 단초로서 삼으려는 목적이다. 예수 그리스도의 복음운동의 핵심본질을 ‘하나님 나라 운동’이라고 파악하고, ‘ 하나님 나라’가 지닌 역사 내재적 측면과 역사 초월적 측면을 동시에 통존시키면서, 루터와 칼빈이 말하는 ‘두 왕국론’의 참다운 의미를 밝히고 ‘정교분리론’의 오류를 바로잡으려 했다. 세속왕국(국가)과 영적왕국(교회)은 각각 그 기능과 역할분담에서 ‘구별’해야 하지만 ‘분리’할 수 없음을 강조한다. 한국교계를 보수와 진보로 양분하는 ‘개인구원’과 ‘사회구원’의 양분론이 원천적으로 잘못된 것임을 강조한다. 또한 루터와 칼빈의 경제사상이 그들의 시대적 ‘삶의 자리’가 지닌 제한성에도 불구하고 오늘날 문제되는 정치와 경제활동에서 필수적인 공공성신학을 지향한다는 것을 밝히고 강조하였다. 그리고 급진적 종교개혁이라고 부르는 종교개혁 운동에서 제3의 흐름들의 신앙운동이 오늘날 국가권력 비판과 비폭력 평화사상의 신학적 기초가 될 수 있다고 그 의미를 재평가하고 주목한다.

영문 초록

This paper is a study on the socio-political changes influenced by Reformation, especially by the thought of Martin Luther, John Calvin, and anabaptists. This essay intends to show the points of agreement and differences between them regarding with authority of national regime and orthodoxy church. However, the point of view for this article is the perspective of a socio-cultural theology rather than the church history proper. The key words of this essay are the authority of conscience and reason, sanctification of daily life, public character of economic-political powers, kingdom of God, and radical criticism on the national regime and the institutional church system. First of all, this paper intends to make the authentic meaning of the Kingdom of God clear. This symbol, the kingdom of God, is the kernel of the Gospel, the core of proclaimed kerygma of Jesus and apostles. And further more, this Christian symbol is the foundation of Christian social ethics and the critical viewpoint on various ideologies of economic-political powers. Regarding with the attitude to Christian social ethic, the difference and conflict between conservative Christian and liberal one originate to the different understanding on Kingdom of God. The Kingdom of God is a social, political, and personalistic symbol. The symbolic material is taken from the ruler of realm who establishes a reign of justice and peace. The Kingdom of God includes the spiritual community, but just as the historical dimension embraces all other dimensions, the Kingdom of God embraces all realms including socio-political affairs. So that, as Tillich argues, it is significant that the symbol of Kingdom of God is political. Luther and Calvin agreed about two functions of the law in terms of ‘the two kingdoms(governments) theory.’ The point of the two kingdoms theory is that regarding with functions and duties, two kingdoms should be distinguished but could not be separated. Calvinism has produced a type of protestant ethics in which progressive sanctification is the aim of Christian life which is called ‘inner-worldly asceticism.’ The third stream of reformation as the radical reformation group including anabaptists argues that the symbol of the Kingdom of God has a revolutionary character. They assert that Christianity, in so far as it works in line with Kingdom of God, should be a revolutionary force directed towards a radical transformation of society. This thought is expressed, in Ecumenical Movement of 21 century, like as “Justice, Peace, and integrity of creation.”
