국문 초록

본 연구는 가스라이팅의 심리적 조작 및 강압적 통제 개념을 바탕으로 마태복음에서 사용된 ‘οἱ ὑποκριταί’에 대한 비판이 현대의 가스라이팅 문제와 유사함을 탐구한다. 이를 위해 가스라이팅의 신경과학적 기전을 정리한 후, 미셸 푸코의 ‘길들이기’ 이론을 통해 마태복음에서의 ‘οἱ ὑποκριταί’ 비판을 대항 담론으로 제시한다. 연구는 먼저 신약학계의 관련 연구를 검토하고, ‘ὑποκριτής’의 고대 문헌 내 정의를 살펴 재정의 가능성을 제시한다. 마지막으로 마태 기자가 ‘οἱ ὑποκριται’를 문제 삼고, 제안하는 대안적 관점을 통해 가스라이팅의 피해자가 심리적 조작과 통제에서 벗어나 자신의 삶을 영위할 수 있는 방법을 고찰하고자 한다.

영문 초록

Using the concept of psychological manipulation and/or coercive control (so-called gaslighting), this study explores the parallels between Matthew’s critique of οἱ ὑποκριταί and contemporary issues of gaslighting. To do so, it summarizes the neuroscientific mechanisms of gaslighting and then presents Matthew’s critique of οἱ ὑποκριταί as a counter-discourse. The study first reviews relevant research in New Testament studies, and then examines the definition of ‘ὑποκριτής’ in ancient literature to suggest possibilities for redefinition. Finally, through the alternative perspective that Matthew offers in problematizing ‘οἱ ὑποκριται’, the paper explores the ways in which victims of gaslighting are able to liberate themselves from psychological manipulation and control, and then move on with their lives.
